Black Forest review by Anton Bitel

"In the ensuing pandemonium, Aragão proves the old adages that it takes a village to raise a child, and that there is nothing more global than the local. It may start small, but by the end, A Mata Negra has expanded its themes to a universal, apocalyptic scale. The film is bloody bananas (and includes bunches of both in its exuberant narrative), using its limited budget to craft a gorily unhinged world of hell with a diabolically compromised innocent at its centre. In the end, the ...

Werewolf when a simple costume can make you powerless

Review by Anton Bitel   "In Adrian Panek’s film, the ‘Werewolf’ of the title is a metaphor. The first meal that the children share in the palace is a tin of dog food, which they fight over and spill all over the floor before picking it up again with their hands and mouths to devour hungrily. Inured to Camp life, they have become brutalised, b...

Dorminsky Mario
(Fantasporto)

36th OPORTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL runs Feb 26, March 5

The Oporto International Film Festival, specializes in fantasy and science-fiction films in its Official Competitive section.
This Festival also includes the 18th New Directors Week with an Official Competition and a Retrospective section. The Festival’s director, Mário Dorminsky, is preparing, with the help of the Portuguese Film Institute, a program with Portuguese Films for the benefit of the foreign guests in Fantasporto.
The Festival runs now in 5 theatres (2,600 seats altogether ) and screens nearly new 200 feature films each year. The press coverage of the Festival is made by all the most important Portuguese newspapers, radio stations and television networks and by foreign specialized press. This allows press dossiers of about 5000 clippings every year and represents a unique media coverage in Portugal for similar cultural events.

Almost 110,000 entries, per year is the average of the Festival’s past editions.
