Submissions to Fantasporto close end NovemberSUBMISSIONS CLOSE END OF NOVEMBER So farmore than 1500 film submissions from over 70 countries
Fantasporto announced today that the film submissions for the 44th edition of the Porto International Film Festival | Fantasporto'2024 will close at the end of this month and the line-up for this edition will be announced in December. The final program will be announced in January. Fantasporto 2024 will take place from March 1 to 10 at the Batalha Centro de Cinema and, possibly, at other venues in Porto. To date, around 40 feature films and 20 short films have been invited from 32 countries. The Chinese representation is the largest in the selection so far, and Asia will once again be the continent with the most films invited, followed by Europe and the United States. With still 15 days to go until the end of registration, Fantasporto has received around 400 feature films and 1,200 short films directly from producers, sales agents and directors from 5 continents, all of which, according to the regulations, are exclusively fantastic, and all of which have never been shown in Portugal before, and also that many of which are to be shown in international or even world premieres. The selection of films was difficult, according to the Fantasporto organization, given the very high number of films submitted and, the quality of most of them, which is important in terms of world production and shows an improvement in the production and creativity of the cinema that is being produced today. According to Fantasporto, it's also worth noting that a number of super-productions have entered the festival, and that these are even competing with North American mega-productions. That It's important since its producers place Fantasporto on a higher level, considering it to be an event capable of promoting the most diverse cinematography’s internationally, particularly Asian ones. All in all, it seems that Fantasporto 2024, despite being held during the final period of the Parliamentary Election Campaign, could be a space that appeals to a wide audience and gives them a clear picture of current world film production. It won't be until after the daily program has been conclude, i.e. in January 2024, that it will be possible to find out who the event's guests will be, who will take part in the so-called daily Movie Talks to be held at the Batalha Centro de Cinema. The special guests and juries for the Official Sections of Fantastic Cinema, Directors' Week, Orient Express and the Portuguese Cinema Award will also be announced in February. It should be noted that the Festival will run from March 1 to 10 and that it has previously announced that, in the retrospectives section, it will highlight Hungarian fantastic cinematography, a world-first showcase of real-image films from Japanese manga (comics), a focus on the little-known cinematography of Kazakhstan and one dedicated to the director, winner of Fantasporto'2023 with his film "Megalomania", Karim Quelhaj. This makes for one of the best editions of the Porto International Film Festival, aka Fantasporto 2024.
