Movie Talks at Fantasporto 44Specially dedicated to cinema training. Taking advantage of the availability of some of the national and foreign guests at Fantasporto 2024, a program of debates/conferences/workshops was organized aimed at a younger audience, young filmmakers and film students . The aim of this extra-exhibition program of festival films is to promote debate and gatherings, reflecting and pointing out ways for new filmmakers and film lovers FREE ENTRY.

AN APPROACH TO AMERICAN INDIE CINEMA, NOW AND THEN: THE SUBCULTURES
After the screening, in ROOM 2, of Monte Hellman's classic “Cockfighter” (produced by Roger Corman), a conversation with producer Steven Gaydos, 50 years after the film's premiere, about the value of subcultures in the United States, followed by a reflection on contemporary independent cinema and the phenomenon of Country Music with producer Steven Gaydos, director Ate de Jong and members of the film team HEART STRINGS, in relation to the World Premiere in competition at Fantasporto 2024 Directors' Week. Producer Steven Gaydos co-wrote the screenplay and some of the film's songs, and is currently administrator and editor-in-chief of Variety magazine. Director Ate de Jong had almost his entire filmography shown at Fantasporto and was awarded the 2017 Fantasporto Career Award. (in English)

STREAMING VS SALA CINEMA - by Pedro Garcia Rosado
Pedro Garcia Rosado was born in Lisbon in 1955. As a journalist, he worked as a writer and collaborator in several national media outlets and was a correspondent for Variety in Portugal. He was a film critic and author of Portuguese video yearbooks from 1989 to 1993, he was a communications consultant and professional translator. He has published eleven novels, all in the thriller field , translated in France and Spain, the most recent being O Último Refúgio (Author's Club). HORROR IN MODERN TIMES. Belgian director Karim Ouelhaj , from “Megalomaniac”, winner of the Best Film and Director Awards at Fantasporto 2023, and honored at Fantasporto 2024, talks about his work with producer Florence Saadi.
Karim Ouelhaj is a Belgian director, writer and producer. His first feature film “Parabola” was selected for the Venice Festival in the official Giornatti degli Autori Venice Days section. This film also won the Federico Fellini Prize in 2006 in the USA, among other awards. It was the first feature film in a triptych dedicated to society, which included “La Repas du Singe” (2013), Best Actress at the Rome Festival, and “Une Realité para Seconde” (2015). In 2016, his fantastic short film “L'Oeil Silencieux” won the Grand Prize and the Méliès D'Argent at the Brussels Festival and was selected, and awarded, at numerous festivals. “Megalomaniac” (2022), his fourth feature film, inspired by the true story of the Butcher of Mons, won more than 20 international awards, including Best Film at Fantasia (Canada), Best Horror Film at the Macabro Film Festival (Mexico) and Best Film, Director and Actress at Fantasporto 2023. THE GENESIS OF NOUVELLE VAGUE- AND THE WORD BECAME AUTHORICAL CINEMA Lecture by writer and journalist Danyel Guerra .
Danyel Guerra was born in the city of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a degree in History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and has dedicated himself to the study of the History of Cinema. After having taught History in Secondary Education, he switched to Journalism at the newspapers Notícias da Tarde, Jornal de Notícias and Correio da Morning. At the end of the 70s, he began collaborating with Cinema Novo magazine, among others. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Clube Português de Cinematografia/Cineclube do Porto for two successive terms. He was a judge at some Film Festivals, namely Fantasporto on the Jury of the Portuguese Cinema Prize.
