The Lost Poem

Director: Apollo Poetry.
What if our words could echo through time? What if the things we do to-day could inspire complete strangers without us ever knowing it? This film follows the ripple effect of our decisions and is meant to teach us to be grateful for all the things we have in our lives. Follow the journey of a homeless man as he struggles to get his life together, while a college student’s life gradually goes downhill. The 2 men are connected in a way they never knew. They are connected not only through time, but also through words.

Tobruk

Director: Václav Marhoul.
There is only a very thin line between heroism and cowardice. Courage is the will power, which no man has enough to spare. If used, it is soon exhausted. Courage is the capital, which we spend gradually. Thus, the last order may be the order to pay out the account drawing to zero. The deepest fear rises when a man is floundered by a current, all alone, having nothing to hold on and not being able to cope. This is the main topic and the artistic motto of this wartime psychological drama. North Africa, II. WW, Fall 1941. Jiri Pospichal, twenty years old, signs up as a volunteer in the Czechoslovak army. His naive ideas about heroism are rawly confronted with the hell of the African desert, complicated relationships in his unit and the ubiquitous threat of death. All this takes its cruel toll in the shape of his gradual loss of self respect and courage. He is full of self-confidence and patriotic ideals, yet at the same time is deeply frustrated by his father, whom he views as a collaborator. His closest companion is a Jewish soldier, Jan Lieberman, in many ways more mature. Their opposite, in turn, is Corporal Kohák, a former member of the French Foreign Legion, for whom warfare is above all a profession The psychological drama between these three characters, the differing attitudes and personalities of each of them, are, during the course of the story and most clearly in its dramatic climax, brought into confrontation with a clear and harsh test of the moral character of all. The plot of the film is freely based on the classic American novel “The Red Badge of Courage” by Stephen Crane, first published in New York in 1897.

Trust Me

Director: Roberto Rizzo.
A six degree of separation story, where Ponzi scheme's, drug dealing, and money laundering all meet in a disloyal world of betrayals. Thomas, a white collar Ponzi schemer has a particular way to meet his clients, or better put his prey. A very charming good looking man, well spoken with kind manners betrays his clients with false promises of very good returns on their investments. Thomas runs into problems when he can’t back up his promises any longer. In order to keep his schemes going he needs to do something else to get more cash, and nothing better than money laundering. Thomas creates a money laundering system based on fake donations to different “Charities” all over Manhattan. With the help of his best friend, Al Genovesse, an associate of a prominent Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Thomas is introduced to the underworld of business fraud and Mafia bosses. One of Al's referrals is Johnny Bramanti, a film producer who runs into trouble when a mafia boss, Michael Dileo, asks him to clean twenty million dollars from a drug deal. Johnny tries to refuse Michael’s offer as a silent partner in his movie business, telling him he needs to “think about it.” Very upset and violent, Michael reminds Johnny that ten years ago he helped him with some money to start his Sexy Films Production, and without “thinking “The money was ready to help. Johnny is literally against the wall and has no other alternative than to help Michael and clean the twenty million dollars for the sake of his life. Johnny wants to nail Michael but he has no proof; the money laundering won’t be enough because he knows that Michael has the best lawyers and always walks free of any charges at the increasing frustration of the DA’S office. Johnny’s only possibility comes when Michael wants to have his young mistress and prisoner, Brigitte, as a star in one of his movies. Johnny uses her to find the proof he needs to put Michael away for good. Her desperate pursuits of the evidence that will make her free, becomes very far reaching and looks more like an impossible task. Frustrated, she tries to escape, but, it proves an unsuccessful move.

Hollow Feet

Director: Nick Walters .
The film is an oddly charming and unique love story that explores a twisted psychological predicament as in the ‘extremist’ tradition of Japanese and South Korean cinema… A big city at night. Two young cyborg lovers (a Japanese boy and girl) are on the run from repair men. The couple reaches a bridge and agrees to jump to escape to a better world but as they step off the boy pulls out at the last moment. After a literal kiss of death (from the figure of Death itself) the girl's ghost rises from her body and looks around for her partner, but the boy sneaks off, ashamed he failed to keep his promise. Whilst sulking and hidden in a giant cardboard box (once used to contain a cyber), a cunning idea strikes the boy – one which he thinks will allow him to face the girl with respect intact ...but it backfires spectacularly and he wanders the night streets in a sulk, his various comical attempts to terminate himself intermittently punctuating his gloom. Out of ideas and resigned to the fact that he will never again be with the girl, a passing emergency siren leads him on a chase through the night streets as he hunts down the figure of Death itself... The film shares a combination of the mythical tone and dark humour of Old Boy with the playful, dream-like tone of Punch Drunk Love.
