The Czech-In Film Festival is celebrating its 10th edition: get ready to embark on a cinematic voyage of a lifetime!

For its 10th edition, the Czech-In Festival invites you to check- in for an unforgettable adventure, from 17 to 21 October 2024, at the Cinéma Saint-André des Arts in Paris. More than just a festival, it’s a journey to the heart of Europe to discover Czech and Central European culture, where each screening transports you into a varied cinematic universe.

Once you’re on board, you’ll never come back the same!

This anniversary edition pays tribute to several historic moments and emblematic figures. The centenary of Franz Kafka’s death will be celebrated with the screening of the film América, inspired by his work, while the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution will be honored with the documentary Havel Speaking, Can You Hear Me? which traces the final years of Václav Havel, a leading figure in the fight for freedom of expression and democracy. The Sorbonne Malesherbes will also host a special screening of Leaving, the only film directed by Havel, exploring the challenges of the end of his political life and legacy.

We will also be celebrating the centenary of Ester Krumbachová, with the screening of her cult work The Murder of Mr. Devil, a film that is both strange and poignant. On his 90th birthday, the surrealist genius Jan Švankmajer will be remembered with the screening of the documentary Chimeras of Švankmajer at the INALCO University, offering a fascinating plunge into his imaginary world unique to the artist.

This year, young audiences will be able amused by Pat and Mata popular  animated series in the Czech Republic, while teenagers will be captivated by the contemporary thriller #annaismissing, a film that explores the dangers of social networking. Adults will be seduced by She Came at Night, a comedy-drama with horror overtones, which was a big hit with Czech audiences this year. Next, Photophobia, a film co-produced by the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine and awarded the Europa Cinemas Label, will plunge us into the heart of the tragic news of the war in Ukraine.

New for this 10th edition: a panel of Franco-Czech co-productions will present six current projects, reflecting the close cinematographic collaboration between the two countries. In addition, A presentation by the Prague Audiovisual Fund will highlight funding opportunities for international projects.

Meetings and debates will provide food for thought about the works being screened in this year’s programme. Thanks to a partnership with Charles University, former students will benefit from reduced rates and a free beer offered by our partner Les Bières tchèques.

The Czech-In Film Festival 2024 is placed under the patronage of the Czech Minister of Culture and the Czech Ambassador to Paris, underlining the importance of this event for the promotion of Czech cinema in France.

In December, the festival will also be continuing its collaboration with the City Hall of Paris Hôtel de Ville de Paris, with the screening of the documentary Forgotten Founder – Ernest Denis, which explores the role of the founder in the history of Paris.

This French historian played an essential role in Czechoslovak independence.

Czech-In Festival: a bridge between France and the Czech Republic, between past and present, a celebration of cinema that will take you far beyond the screen.
