The jury of Montreal World in action

user
Australian actress Greta Scacchi will preside over an international jury of film personalities from around the world. Her fellow jurists:  Véra Belmont, one of France's top producers, began her career as an actress but quickly sensed that her talent lay not in front of the camera but behind it. In 1966 she produced Paul Vecchiali's The Devil's Tricks and over four decades...

Konstantin Bozhanov: “It is not necessary to take a ship to go to a non-existent village on the Danube”

user
Ave is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. The work keeps the viewers in a natural suspense that is not a filmmaking trick but the core of the story told – universal on one hand, but on the other hand, somehow corresponding to the local reality (just before the start of the shooting Konstanin Bozhanov was offered to rewrite the script and moving the story to Seattle, but he refused because it didn’t seem natural to him). A film with very dark and poorly lit sp...

Comic-Con IV: A Fan's Hope

user
Morgan Spurlock is the the greatest example of a filmmaker who thinks outside the box and has the imagination and inspiration of a true artist. I compare him to the artist Andy Warhol because he sees what others may view but his artistic talent allows him to create something unique. Perhaps his determination to be a filmmaker after being rejected by the USC film school several times but finally making the cut at the NYU film school opened his eyes in a ...

Lotus

Director: Pascale Simons.
The daughter of a mother who wants to die, a disabled soccer player, a family man with a double life, a hip couple in their thirties and a broken family with an autistic son. They all live in one city. And in the next 24 hours , they will be more connected than they think. A painful and loving look at the complexity of loneliness in the Netherlands. LOTUS is a rare cinematic experience that challenges audiences to question their own loneliness and that of others. Diving headfirst into the harsh individualistic reality of a big city, this film investigates fear, loneliness and love from multiple perspectives. No one seems safe in the battle for happiness. And no one is immune to the hidden pain of individualism and anonymity that causes loneliness and changes lives. The lotus is a water plant that grows from the mud towards the light. The lotus effect is the phenomenon that occurs when dirt lands on the leaf of a Lotus: It won't stick. This self-cleaning feature is due to the numerous small bumps on the leaf.

user
As in past years, the documentary sector appears to be consistently stabile, politically engaged and in its diversity well equipped for the cinema. Moreover, it's a treasure trove for themes that inspire fictional films.   On February 10, 2012, in Cinestar7, the Panorama Dokumente will open with The Reluctant Revolutionary by British director Sean McAllister. The film is about a Yemenite tourist guide who slowly abandons his professional distance towards the political "spring&...
