A
couple of years ago my parents, like a lot of elderly people, suddenly
took to cruises. And in order to share their new-found love, they
insisted that my wife and I join them on one.
My
wife and I, just so you know, are more accustomed to kayaking the
headwaters of the Amazon than standing in line at the floating buffet,
so when we got an opportunity to take part in one of the "activities",
we jumped.
We went snorkeling.

Caphirinas, dee-jayed dança and Brazilian beats in Central Park – even if Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil (June 5 to 12, 2010) weren't bringing a week of new Brazilian cinema to New York, it'd still be a pretext to samba.

Synopsis:
In Argentina, more than eight thousand people die every year in road accidents at a daily average of twenty-two. More than a hundred and twenty thousand are injured. Only the last decade has seen one hundred thousand deaths. The millions of pesos that every victim represents in medical and legal expenses produce an enormous market, supported by the compensations of insurance companies and the weakness of the law. Behind every tragedy, there is an industry.SOSA is a lawyer spec...

Jointly presented with Havana, Cuba's International Festival of New
Latin American Cinema, the Havana Film Festival New York is
close, but no cigar. Subways and skyscrapers just can't match that fallen
Habanero elegance as a habitat for Latino cinema. But if Cuba isn't on your
itinerary and Manhattan is, you could do worse than to savor a
week of Big Apple screenings from and about Latin America and
the Caribbean, and about Latinos in the U.S.

The Retrospektive at the Berlinale usually excites all types of film historians, curators, museum personnel, and other interested parties--especially when it's a German subject. This year, a restored version of Fritz Lang's 1927 Metropolis trumped the Retrospektive itself, which was a look-back at significant and sometimes controversial films shown at the film festival since it began in 1951--in far warmer June weather.

Maybe you've heard the buzz about METROPOLIS: the incredible discovery of long-lost footage from director Fritz Lang's masterpiece. The surprise is that we will present the San Francisco screening of this gorgeous and complete restored version at our 15th Anniversary festival in July, accompanied by ...

Director: Maria Rosa Andreotti.
“I should be given the title of Summa Cum Laude bum”, states Ramon Rojas to camera in the first minutes of this documentary portrait shot in the streets of Buenos Aires by visual artist Maria Rosa Andreotti. Musician, street poet, bum by own choice, anarchist, Rojas is one of those urban characters so marginal to the system that is virtually invisible to a majority of society.
“Ramón Rojas – Sueños de chozas” [“Ramón Rojas – Dreams of huts”] looks at the experience and outlook of a man whose culture is his haven and his value of survival. The documentary looks into Ramón’s paradoxes as well as at the decisions to which one may be driven, almost to the limit of losing the most intimate thing we have – the right to privacy, to fantasy and hence, to individual freedom, for all of which a home or a refuge is absolutely necessary.
Re-discovered by Andreotti’s camera, Rojas is featured as an essential part of the current social and economic Argentine landscape.
