Fantasporto 2011 kicks off

Fantasporto day 2 and resisting

My treat for today: after a great coffee in the sun by the river Douro... The screening began at 3 something RABIES (KALEVET) by Aharon Keshales (Isr) - 90 min. The film is fresh from the EFM market presentation and Fantasporto is the first stop on the festival circuit, I bet it is not the last one. I chatted with Aharon before and after the movie, he is so proud to have amade the first horror movie in israel for the israelians, this came as a big surprise too for...

I saw the devil in Fantasporto and I enjoyed, though brutal...

My day in Fantasporto: a treat of fantastic, raw ham-and-bread tapas and a glass of port. RED as blood! PATIENT X de Yam Laranas (Filip) - 108 min. Creatures you do not want to meet: stupid, strong, violent, strange language, even for someone from Philipines. They would feed on you. and a well deserved happy end after 108 long minutes. Second feature in the Rivoli auditorium: THE CHAMELEON de Jean Paul Salomé (Can) - 106 min. Based on a true story of a young fre...

Independent films capture seven major Oscars
Independent films captured seven major Oscars at tonight’s 83rd Academy Awards ®, including a Best Picture victory by The Weinstein Co.’s The King’s Speech. The win brings to 19 the number of independent films taking Best Picture honors over the past 30 years, the Independent Film & Television Alliance announced.

Cunning Linguistics by Kimberly Deisler

If you’re reading this, chances are you know what to expect; smart-ass remarks, a turn of a phrase and a decent amount of cleverly placed sarcasm and profanity, which is why I so enjoy the Independent Spirit Awards. Spirited aptly describes the entire day from weather to wardrobe, from nominees to winners, from one open bar to the next with Jameson shots and Stella Artois chasers, some sponsor favorites among many a guest. But the flowing alcohol certainly wasn’t needed to loo...

CHRISTIAN BALE: His Backstage OSCAR Moments, Raw & Uncensored... no F words

By Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent Here's what happens backstage at the Oscars, actors routinely forget what they said on stage when they accepted their statutettes. Live from the Press Pool at the 83rd Academy Awards Presentation, get close up as Christian Bale lets his hair down: CHRISTIAN BALE: I've got a question for you guys, actually. You know, you get up there and you're giving your speech, and I hope to God that I said Mark and Melissa and Am...

Here's The Best Thing About Oscars 2011, Besides Colin, Natalie & Melissa Leo's F-Bomb

By Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent If you wonder what people inside the industry are thinking tonight, get this: The 83rd Annual Oscar presentation was very... independent. In fact, while many derided the indy-minded Spirit Awards for cold weather and water-logged press tents, the Oscars were roundly applauded for their brave indie choices... warm green rooms, and great Wolfgang Puck food, of course. Here's proof from our friends at IFTA: INDEPENDENT FILMS...

The complete list of Spirit Award winners:

 Dimension 3 2011 May 24- 26, 2011

Dimension 3 reaffirms its ambition to offer a networking platform, by gathering together professionals who offer new tools, products or services and those who are looking for solutions or new practices in the field of images, from creation to visualization. Efforts should be made to avoid trivialization and give creation a prestigious image, be itstereoscopic 3D, mixed reality, haptic technologies, ultra-high resolution, etc.
Technology should make images smarter, but also continue to be a vector for emotions: creators must hold a prominent position at the center of this issue. In this perspective, Dimension 3 new edition also provides a place for young creators to showcase their talents, offering opportunities and creating vocations. This year’s event is spread out across two venues, one of which is dedicated to the ecosystem of images from filming to visualization, the other to new uses and talents.
