HOLLYWOOD SHORTS

HOLLYWOOD SHORTS is a short film festival held on the 3rd Sunday of each month in Los Angeles, and we accept film submissions on a quarterly rolling basis.  Our festival launched in October 1998 and each year we have screened about 300 shorts and 'toons throughout the year.  Our regular screenings feature emerging filmmakers and their creative teams to the Los Angeles film and television production community. Our 13th screening season runs from October 2010 - September 2011.

MONTHLY SCREENINGS:

HOLLYWOOD SHORTS Monthly Screenings celebrate the outstanding achievements in short filmmaking and animation from both U.S. and international directors and their creative teams.  Over 300 short and animated films are programmed year round.  HOLLYWOOD SHORTS launched in October 1998 at a music venue on the westside called THE JOINT.  The overflowing crowd packed the house, and filled the sidewalk outside watching films by David Fickas & Mark Kelly, Frank Tota, and animation by Joe Pearson.  The next month, Variety Magazine wrote a small piece about the next screening, and we were officially a member of the film festival community.  Since that night, HOLLYWOOD SHORTS quickly became one of the most popular short film series in Los Angeles.

ANNUAL SPOTLIGHT SCREENINGS:

Our annual Spotlight Screenings began as part of our monthly series, and have grown to become their own stand alone events.  The annual and bi-annual festivals are dedicated to showcase specific groups of filmmakers we believe deserve an opportunity to step into the forefront to share their work with the film and television community.  Our SPOTLIGHT events include:

FEB 2011:  African American Filmmakers Celebration at The American Cinematheque

MARCH 2011:  Women Filmmakers Shortsfest

APRIL 2011:  Animation Shortsfest

HOLLYWOOD SHORTS continues our 13th year of short film and animation monthly screenings with our November program. We continue our focus on discovering new voices in film and animation using the art of short filmmaking to share their storytelling styles and visual sensibilities.

Our program includes the Los Angeles premiere of ALLISON CRAIG's new short film BARKO, recently nabbed an Audience Favorite pick at Palm Springs ShortFest.  We are also screening the hysterical holiday treat of a film by New York filmmaker SEAN GANNET, DOTTIE'S THANKSGIVING PICKLE. Exceptional cast including Tony Award Nominee NANCY OPEL and Academy Award Winner OLYMPIA DUKAKIS.  PIANO MAN explores a unique visual style that incorporates ANDREW WILDING's extensive photography background.

The evening includes a special screening of the beloved short film SOME FOLKS CALL IT A SLING BLADE as we take a moment to remember filmmaker George Hickenlooper.
