Review of "Aziza" + Interview with Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner, Soudade Kaadan

I had the honor this week to connect with the incredibly talented, Short Film Grand Jury Prize Winner, Soudade Kaadan. Her story may be one of the most important in the whole festival. As a Syrian filmmaker, she has experienced more hardships than any American filmmaker can imagine. She does not have nearly the same resources as many of her competitors yet she still manages to make high caliber film that is enjoyable even without its profound political context.   Her fil...

Kamasi Washington speaks on his short film submission "As Told to G/D Thyself" - Interview/Review from Sundance

I had the pleasure of speaking with Kamasi Washington before the premiere screening of his short film entry, As Told to G/D Thyself. The film is essentially a narrative music video hybrid that takes place over select songs from his newest album Heaven and Earth. If you aren't already familiar with Kamasi Washington's catalog, you should start to learn today. He is one of the premier musicians of this generation, an absolute master of the Jazz form, and highly regarded amongst the best ...

Moonlight People

Director: Dmitri Frolov.

Two completely traditional couples of lovers on a warm summer night make a kind of coming-out in front of each other, telling about their hidden impulses from a previous life.
The impetus to making the film was the book of the same name by the Russian religious philosopher Vasily Rozanov, who died 100 years ago. His treatise was devoted to the study of sexuality and its denial in Christianity.
The film was made in the style of experimental films of the 1920s with a non-linear narrative full of strange surrealistic images. He is black and white and devoid of dialogue. The image is based on the music of Alexander Scriabin "The Poem of Ecstasy", composed and performed also at the beginning of the 20th century.

Best Shorts Competition - EVER!

user
Best Short Film Competition - EVER!   Writers judge filmmakers and filmmakers judge writers. It’s that simple! We fund you to collaborate. We let the community decide.   Up to $10,000 for the short script. Up to $25,000 for the filmmaker to shoot it.   Writers can't judge writers.  Filmmakers can't judge filmmakers. Everyone receives a massive amount of feedback.   The filmmaker owns 100% of the film. Writersandfilmmakers.com owns 0%.   Visi...

Hollywood Divine International Film Festival

The Hollywood Divine International Film Festival is dedicated to enriching the community and bridging cultures through the spirituality, education and promotion of the arts through independent film.

We, at Hollywood Divine, with the help of our heavenly father, want to make a big change and we are hoping you can help us with that.

There are many Christian artists out there looking for an outlet to spread the light of God through their God given gift of artistry. There are also many Christian people out there looking to appreciate art that celebrates their relationship with Christ.

We at Hollywood Divine want to be the catalyst for that change. A change that will, at least, balance out the darkness spread by mainstream Hollywood and the music industry, and give independent Christian filmmakers and musicians the chance to build their ministries by displaying their art to the world.

We believe that creating art, in any form, is a reflection of the ultimate creator. It’s one of the best ways to praise God and share his infinite love with the world. We ask you to please consider joining us on this journey.
