NatureTrack Film Festival 5th Anniversary

NatureTrack Film Festival Announces Dates for 5th Anniversary Edition

New Festival Team Revealed

First Time in Goleta at Fairview Theatre and Return to Los Olivos

Submissions Open Now - Calling for Nature-Centric Films

(Goleta, CA) Celebrating the return of the beloved NatureTrack Film Festival (NTFF) for its 5th year is cause to break out the champagne.  Lots of exciting news to reveal like new co-directors for the fest, addition of a development director to the team, add in a new location, official dates, plus call for open submissions to the nature-centric film festival.  Most of all, it’s an in-person gathering for the fabulous fifth year.

This great little festival that can is curated with a focus on nature and outdoor-related films – its tag line is Igniting Passion for Nature Through Film. The program will include both feature-length and short films in a wide variety of genres and subjects including documentary, narrative, animation, experimental, conservation, outdoors adventure, student films, and more. Sue Eisaguirre, Founder and Executive Director of NatureTrack Foundation, announced the festival dates will be October 6-8 at Metropolitan’s Fairview Theatre in Goleta for the first time. Eisaguirre stated, “Environmental concerns are in the forefront of our community’s collective conscience, and I believe this festival will further inform all those interested in the natural world about other people who are doing great things around the world. The films will also excite attendees to get outdoors, connect with the natural world and enjoy the elixirs nature offers!”  Fun for the family.  In addition to the three-day event in Goleta, NTFF will screen the award-winning films in Los Olivos, where the festival all began, for a ‘Best of the Fest’ one day event the following weekend.  Location for this event will be announced soon.

Leading the emerging film festival are the new Festival Directors, Mitchka Saberi and Francisco Lopez. They both graduated from UCSB where Eisaguirre connected with them through Film & Media Studies professor Chris Jenkins. The team went on to collaborate on a short documentary co-produced by NatureTrack, and the 15-minute short doc made the rounds to film festivals in 2022 picking up several awards.  Saberi said, “We found working with Sue was a great experience.  When she asked us to consider becoming the directors of the festival, we didn’t have to think very long to say yes!”  Joining them is the new Development Director Gareth Kelly who has also collaborated with Lopez and Saberi in the past on several film projects as a producer. They are all looking forward to bringing the film festival to the Goleta and Santa Barbara communities.

Film submissions are open now on FilmFreeway. The early deadline for submissions is March 5th, and submissions will stay open until the last deadline of June 30th.

For more information about ways to get involved, upcoming ticket and pass sales, submissions, and more- check out the NTFF website (naturetrackfilmfestival.org).  Follow us for updates on Instagram (@naturetrackfilm).

Videoex Experimental Film & Video Festival Date: 21 - 29 May

During nine days, Videoex presents in its 24th edition more than 150 international and Swiss works. In addition to the extensive competition, it curates retrospectives, special programs, discussions and a supporting program of live acts and installations. Various workshops will introduce adults as well as children and young people to the medium of film. From Switzerland, we will be showing the experimental and Super 8 films of Zurich filmmaker Anka Schmid, which were made in the turbulent 1980s, as part of the CH Focus. Artist and this year's Artist Focus Rosa Barba creates sculptural, bizarrely beautiful images of human inscriptions in nature. For the Artist Specials, three artists will be represented at the festival: Lawrence Abu Hamdan makes forensic hearing visible, Neïl Beloufa tells of content decomposition and colonialism by means of a formal break with cinematic conventions, and Basma Alsharif interweaves geopolitical landscapes such as her native Palestine with human existence. While the Swiss and International Competitions provide a representative snapshot of experimental filmmaking, the major guest program Arab Wave is dedicated to the artistic and cinematic works of the Arab Mediterranean.

Tokyo CINEMASTERS Film Festival Call for Entries

Welcome to Tokyo CINEMASTERS International Film Festival.
We are hosting our 1st Annual Festival in OCT 1st 2020 at Tokyo Cine Center.

Through discovering films and directing talent from across the globe, our film festival was founded with the mission of developing the next generation of cinema.
Japan loves all cinema, regardless of country, language, or race.
The culture of watching films with subtitles is well established here, with releases from a multitude of nations each year.

However, the majority of those releases are limited to commercial movies. The reality is that there are a wealth of fantastic overseas directors and films lying dormant that we’re never exposed to. The lack of “international” film festivals in Japan has also been an issue.

Based in Tokyo, a place where new and diverse booms are born, this festival brings together films and people active on a global stage.
A festival where you can see cinematic work that cross boundaries of race and language.

Australia Independnet Film Festival

Australia Independent Film Festival (AIFF) Brisbane Australia.

Known as “the festival where stars shine,” the Australia Independent Film Festival is on track to become Australia's premiere short film festival. AIFF is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland.

“Put this festival in your top 10 list to submit. You’ll be glad you did.” Jhett Tolentino - Grammy & Tony Award Winning Broadway Producer.

Whether you're a student filmmaker, a first-time filmmaker or a seasoned professional your entry will be treated with the utmost respect and professionalism it deserves. We encourage participation and actively promote through social media channels, news outlets and our contact database.

"We wish this great festival all the success", 2020 Oscar nominated Mosul 980 and winner of AIFF19 Best International Short Film.

At AIFF we believe it is our core values which help set us apart from many other festivals. We are totally committed to being an ethical festival and make the following promise to all entrants. It is our filmmakers guarantee and what we believe is an industry first.

1. We will be transparent, honest and provide regular festival updates.

2. All entries will be played in their entirety and judged as per the listed judging and selection process. We do not promote favoritism.

3. At AIFF20 every very finalist film 'will' screen in a real theater in attendance by paying public. We screen all finalist films and not just films from attending filmmakers. Finalist = Official Selection.

4. The awards ceremony is and will always be free to attend.

5. If a film wins but a filmmaker is not in attendance their trophy will be delivered at no charge.

AIFF SELECTION PROCESS:

Being an independent festival we encourage all genres and a greater emphasis in the judging process is the overall appeal verses technical perfection and or money spent. Each entry is judged internally using standardized criteria before the top scoring films are judged by an external jury of industry professionals.

REWARDING FILMMAKERS

SEMI-FINALISTS. The top twenty percent (submission dependent) of each category will be named as semi-finalists and will be awarded a semi-finalist laurel and a digital print quality certificate at festival close.

Please note: Semi-finalist films will not be screened at the festival.

FINALISTS will be selected from the semi-finalist group and will be awarded a finalist laurel, official selection laurel and a digital certificate. Numbers will be dependent on category entries and programming requirements.

WINNER'S of each category will be awarded a special winner's laurel, an original print quality digital certificate and a high quality crystal trophy. Other prizes will be added once confirmed.

AIFF NETWORKING @ausindefest

We believe a festival is not a festival without the opportunity for filmmakers to network and socialize between fellow creative's.

Before and after screening sessions festival goers will be encouraged to network and socialize at the theater.

Attending finalist filmmakers will be invited to participate in a special group Q and A session. We want to give you a voice within the festival and beyond.

For those that like to socialize and network into the early hours. Each night a nominated venue will be selected and announced during the screening sessions. There is a reason locals like to call Brisbane – BRISVEGAS.

THE CITY and THE VENUE:

Brisbane, located an hour's drive from the World famous beaches of the Gold Coast is a vibrant, art loving new world city that can be considered the Gateway to Australia. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland is rich with culture and renowned for its hospitality and safety. AIFF20 will take place at the Elizabeth Theater in the heat of Brisbane city.

The Team at AIFF feel the Elizabeth Theater is without a doubt one of the best screening venues in Australia.

Need to know more? We welcome all questions.
