ETHICS AND CINEMA FORUM at FANTASPORTO 2018 

The film festival returns to Porto and to the Rivoli Theater in discovering the most modern and recent films from around the world, after the INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION of the last years that places the FANTASPORTO BETWEEN THE BEST OF THE WORLD.

The " Grand Cinema of the World " is the generic theme of the 38th edition, whose has already been announced .

As sub-theme we will have " Ethics and its Expression in Science, Cinema and the Arts ".

WHAT IS THE PRODUCT OF BIOETHICS, CINEMA AND SCIENCE? (WHAT FINAL PRODUCT FOR BIOETHICS, CINEMA AND SCIENCE? )

In collaboration with the School of Health of the Polytechnic of Porto, moderated by Professor Dr Ricardo Ferraz, with the presence of specialists in the areas of Astrophysics, Literature of Science Fiction, Cinema, Biochemistry and Bioethics.

 

The Speakers

 

Ricardo Ferraz - Professor at the Polytechnic University of Porto, Licentiate and Master in Chemistry from the University of Porto, PhD in Sustainable Chemistry at the New University of Lisbon, where he developed a thesis on Liquids Applied to Drugs. In addition to teaching, Ricardo Ferraz is a researcher at the REQUIMTE Group (Chemistry and Technology Network). He writes in Scientificus and AstroPT Blogs and participates in the organization of PubhD sessions. His fascination with science also grew through his cinephile side. Conference Promoter   "   

Ricardo Ferraz is a Professor at the School of Health from the Polytechnic of Porto. He holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Porto and a PhD in Sustainable Chemistry from the New University of Lisbon , where he has developed the Thesis on Ionic Liquids Applied to Drugs. In addition to teaching, Ricardo Ferraz is a Researcher at REQUIMTE (Chemistry and Technology Network). He writes in the Scientificus Blogs   and AstroPT participates in the PubhD sessions. His fascination for Science also increased because of his fascination for the Cinema. He was the promoter of the lecture "   BC2 =? WHAT THE FINAL PRODUCT FOR BIOETHICS, CINEMA AND SCIENCE? "In Fantasporto 2018.

 

Carlos F. Oliveira is the coordinator of the most popular astronomy website in Portuguese, AstroPT. He initially completed a degree in Business Management and later went to the UK where he studied Astronomy, Scientific Communication and Science Fiction. He then completed a PhD in Science Education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was an Associate Researcher and taught astronomy chairs. Still in this university, he created an innovative Astrobiology course and was awarded the prestigious Addison E. Lee Prize for Scientific Education. 

Carlos F. Oliveira manages the most popular website in Portuguese language, AstroPT . I started by having an undergraduate degree in Business, and later traveled to the United Kingdom to finish BSc. (Honors) in Astronomy, Science Communication and Science Fiction. Next, I completed a PhD in Science Education at The University of Texas at Austin, where I was a Research Fellow and taught Astronomy. He then created an innovative course in Astrobiology for which he was awarded the prestigious Addison E. Cristina Prudêncio has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Porto and in Medicine from the University of Coimbra, a Master's degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Minho and a Medical Pedagogy from the University of Castilla-La Mancha. PhD from the University of Minho with Aggregation by the University of Trás-os Montes. He is currently President of the School of Health (ESS) of the Polytechnic of Porto. She is also Coordinator of the scientific area of ​​Chemical Sciences and Biomolecules, coordinator of the master's degree in Biochemistry in Health and coordinator of the PhD in Advanced Biotechnology (in partnership with the University of Vigo) and President of the Ethics Committee of ESS.

He also holds a doctorate in Medicine in 1996 and was the first PhD in the Portuguese language in Bioethics. Professor of FMUP, he founded the Portuguese Bioethics Association, was a member of the National Council for Life Sciences and in 2011 he was one of the founders of the Porto Social Innovation Center. Author of two dozen works, including "Vital and Genetic Will" and two hundred scientific articles, he was recently appointed head of the Department of the International Research Network of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (Haifa) and has launched a proposal for Universal Declaration of Gender Equality.

Moderation: Beatriz Pacheco Pereira

 

Beatriz Pacheco Pereira holds a degree in German Philology from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, a writer and film specialist with numerous collaborations in newspapers and magazines, and was the founder of Fantasporto in 1981 and its director until today. He also wrote short stories and novels, including the science fiction novel "The Perfect Tomorrow" (2009) about Utopia, and several short stories of science fiction. She was also the promoter and publisher of the "Anthology Fantasporto of Science Fiction" where her tale "O Robot Auris" was included.

Beatriz Pacheco Pereira has a degree in English and German Studies of the University of Porto. She is a writer and film specialist with hundreds of articles published in magazines and newspapers, founder and director of the Oporto International Film festival - Fantasporto in 1981. She wrote a dozen books among which the novel "The Perfect Tomorrow" about Utopia and several sci -fi short stories. She was also the promoter and editor of the "Fantasporto Anthology of Science-Fiction" where her short story "The Robot Auris " was first published.
