Fajr International Film FestivalFounded in 1982, Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) is Iran’s largest annual film festival held in Tehran. It is an event that celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to quality local and international films. Since its establishment, Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of the Iranian Cinema. Every year, veteran directors and new filmmakers devotedly present their works in the festival. Over the years, Fajr has been honored by numerous great film figures who have also worked closely with the festival as respectable Jury Members, such as Volker Schlondorff, Krzysztof Zanussi, Robert Chartoff, Semih Kaplanoglu, Bruce Beresford, Percy Adlon, Paul Cox, Shyam Benegal, Bela Tarr, Jan Troell, Helma Sanders-Brahms, Elia Suleiman, Agnieszka Holland, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Rustam Ibragimbekov, just to name a few among other influential figures. All credited festivals and those aiming to gain fame worldwide seek receiving the attention of media and public audience across the world which partly could be achieved through the participation of international well-known figures, and Fajr International film festival has never been an exception. This year like the previous editions, prominent artists have been invited to attend the 36th edition of Fajr international film festival like Oliver Stone.
American actor, film director, producer, cinematographer and screenwriter Oliver Stone is set to attend the 36th International Fajr Film Festival due for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
Stone has always been an inspiration for those willing to make controversial and anti-war films as he himself is the creator of films took the world by storm such as Snowden, Born on the Fourth of July, The Untold History of the United States, and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and has received several significant awards including Oscar.
Stone's valuable and rich history in writing and directing over 20 full-length feature films has proved his ability to amke films in various genres and styles. He is also famous for hit films Platoon, Scarface, Born on the Fourth of July and Natural Born Killers.
He has always objected to government's policies, greed, collusion and corruption. It is impossible he shows no reaction when political event occurs the world. He has made movies voicing the frustration of the Vietnam War generation and in May revealed a political advertisement calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, a demand Iran regularly made.
Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema and hopes stand this role could improve in coming years.
