Isabelle Giordano, UniFrance managing director says Iran, France enjoy the potential to have mutual artistic cooperation

Isabelle Giordano, the general director of UniFrance, has Headed to Iran to attend the 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival kicked off officially today in Tehran. She is also a former French journalist with extensive experience in print, television, and radio journalism. Isabelle Giordano also founded the association "Cinema pour Tous" and is a member of several boards of directors: the Forum des Images, the Forum d'Avignon, and the Fondation HSBC pour l'Education.

She believes Iran and France could have fruitful cooperation and good co-productions as two countries have proved having common interests regarding art and cinema. In her interview, she stated her willingness to encourage French people to come and visit Iran to discover its cinema.

1.You are known as a producer, journalist and founder of art originations  and writer, for which position have you been invited to festival?

I’m the manager of Unifrance organization from the French government. I’m here to talk about French cinema and make more relation happen between Iran and French cinema. I’m here to represent the French cinema to Iranian people.

2. How do you think we can improve International Fajr film festival effects culturally and artistically across the world?

I am sure the way you invite people from all over the world, which is more than fifty countries is the best way. Very important work is done by Iran’s cinema so the more you invite people from the world the more they will discover your cinema and not just some clichés that you see on TV or news, but something fresh and totally new. When I go back to Franc, I will encourage everyone to come and visit Iran.

3. What have been the most significant things caught your eyes here?

Here people are very interested in cinema and cinema seems important for people and that has been very interesting to me and I think we can benefit from this issue to create mutual cooperation between France and Iran.so I think it is important to show more and more French films here.

And young generations want to discover the world and what’s going on abroad. And I came with two main French artists to represent French cinema to Iran.

4.Berline film festival is famous for its political theme, Cannes film festival is well-known for its artistic them. What is Fajr festival famous for in your perspective? And how do you think Iran-French artists could get connected?

You have a great master Asghar Farhadi, this man is capable of anything. He shows the spirit of Iranian cinema

How about kiarosmati?  He spent most of his life in France and had deep connection with French cinema. He was a great master for us and did a lot of French-Iranian co-productions. He was like a French man and also very very Iranian.

5.You have founded  government organizations ,how can these organizations  have fruitful cooperation with Iran?

Here we are doing workshops, master classes, bringing more directors and artists to Iran and bringing people to the market can make our originations more more fruitful.

6.In few weeks will have Cannes festival, what are the difference and similarities between these two festivals?

In Cannes we can show more and more Iranian movies and Fajr festival is good opportunity for us to see more Iranian movies. But Cannes is so huge but I can say that the soul is the same in both festivals. Fajr is the best venue to dicover Iran’s cinema.

7.As a journalist and writer how do you think artist from different countries can get connected?

I think workshops are very good and the best way to start and find good partners. it’s very easy and French people are really interested in having  co-production.

8.If one day you had the chance  to produce a film about Iran, what kind of theme would you choose?

I would like youth and I’m passionate about them, the way they are learning the way they are getting to know world. I want to know what they do what they learn better.

9.  How can Iranian film distributors receive audience around the world?

French people are fond of Iran cinema and films directed by its well-known directors. They should be more active in worlds market like Cannes and berlin if they want to show.

Your main sentence about Fajr:

Cinema is the most important thing in the world.

Iran and France have had some significant co-productions so far and in this reagd we can mention Farhadi’s “The Past” which has received great attention from people and festivals.

Like his Oscar-winning 'A Separation,' Asghar Farhadi's latest is an exquisitely sculpted family melodrama in which the end of a marriage is merely the beginning of something else. Asghar Farhadi may have left his native Iran to shoot a picture in Paris starring Berenice Bejo, but in all the ways that count, “The Past” couldn’t feel closer to home.

We hope to have more co-productions between the two countries.

of Fajr International Film Festival will be held in Tehran on April 19-27. The Event will take place in Charsou Cineplex in Tehran.
