The Stockholm Festival Junior awards

Today the winners of the 9th Stockholm International Film Festival Junior were presented.
The Bronze Horse for Best Film went to the Estonian drama The Class by Ilmar Raag.
Among the 500 films in the 1 minute film competition two winners are now making a new short film each with a professional film team.
The nine members of Juniorgruppen voted The Class as the best film of 2008. Director Ilmar Raag was present at the Skandia theater during the Awards Ceremony where he received Junior’s 5 kg heavy Bronze Horse. The Honorary Prize went to Behind the Clouds and Switch.

The winners in the national short film competition 1 minute film were selected by Kjell-Åke Andersson, Marie Birde and Moa Gammel in the demographic categories 6-11 years and 12-16 years. The young filmmakers will now get to do a new short film each with a professional film team. In addition two other short films received the Honorary Prize by the jury.

Below is a list of this year’s winners at the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior 2008.

Best Film:
The Class by Ilmar Raag

Juniorgruppen’s grounds:
A strong and profound film with talented actors that deals with big and important questions. The closeness and the strong message makes the film feel authentic and it sticks with you.

Honorary Prize:
Behind the Clouds by Jorge Queiroga

Juniorgruppen’s grounds:
A beautiful and honest film that takes us on a journey to other worlds. It shows us sweet memories but also the tragic and sad parts. The film has a strong ending and shows the importance of forgiveness.

Honorary Prize:
Switch by Ole Martin Hafsmo

Juniorgruppen’s grounds:
A realistic and wonderful film with impressive images and strong characters. It feels very real and shows how important it is to be yourself instead of impressing others.

1 minute film

Winner 6-11 years:
Flickan och Kaninen by Enya Engström, Meja Engström and Nomi Engström 11, 8 and 4 years-old from Strömstad.

The jury’s grounds:
With brilliant technical solutions, innovative choice of music and imaginative cartoon backdrops and clay animations this film shows a paticular artistic vein and a democratic spirit.

Winner 12-16 years:
Birthday by Oskar Johansson 16-years-old from Sundsvall.

The jury’s grounds:
A surreal depiction of a cynical world with a many layered and surprizingly mature point of view. A driven and impressive whole, from the choice of music to the voice-over and technical skill.

Honorary Prize 6-11 years:
Hårsvall by Alexander Dernelius 8-years-old from Bjärred.

The jury’s grounds:
Genius in its simplicity with a very interesting visual composition that is sure to arouse the emotions of its audience. A personal fantasy world that we would like to visit again.

Honorary Prize 12-16 years:
Kalsonger by Adam Bejstam 12-years-old from Stockholm.

The jury’s grounds:
A perfectly told story with a humurous twist about why super heroes wear their underpants on top of their regular pants.
