Monday, June 16------EMPTIES, the ironic comedy by Czech director Jan Sverak, has won the Gold Dolphin, the top award at the 24th edition of Festroia in Portugal. The film, a comic love story about a man facing old age, is the third in a trilogy that includes the director’s previous films ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and the Oscar winning KOLYA. The East End Film Festival came to a close last week with an awards ceremony at Dalston’s Rio Cinema hosted by Perrier-winning comedians Noble & Silver. 8 days, 10 venues, over 20 feature films, countless short films, plus the panel sessions, networking, parties, and gigs by bands such as Youthmovies, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Spork, The Caesareans, and more – it was a full-on week, but was a massive success all round. Today the winners of the 9th Stockholm International Film Festival Junior were presented. The Bronze Horse for Best Film went to the Estonian drama The Class by Ilmar Raag.
