Branchage Jersey
International Film Festival is coming back to the island in
October, screening an incredible
selection of films in breathtaking
and unusual locations.
Highlights for 2009’s festival will
include a spectacular drive-in-cinema showing seminal Judy Garland classic
The Wizard Of Oz, a screening of this year’s most shocking film Lars
Von Trier’s Antichrist and
British Sea Power performing their
poignant soundtrack to the renowned 1934 fisherman film Man of Aran.
Branchage Jersey
International Film Festival has an unbeatable range of films
being screened in truly breathtaking locations, including a beautiful drive-in screening of
The Wizard Of Oz at People’s Park
on the island, a truly terrifying
screening of Antichrist in a scary
hut in the Jersey woods and an incredible performance by British Sea Power to
the classic black & white fisherman film Man of Aran.
The festival launched in 2008 as a
vibrant cross-arts film festival that transformed a number of Jersey’s well recognised landmarks and changed them into
unusual screening venues.
Venues secured for the 2009 festival
include: Mount
Orgueil Castle, Jersey Museum Cinema, The Town Hall/Magistrates Courts, The War Tunnels, Victoria College Boys School Hall, Jersey Opera House. There’ll also be screenings
inside the spectacular Barclays Wealth Spiegeltent, plus an incredible drive-in screening at People’s
Park.
Branchage
aims to create new cinema-going
experiences by holding screenings at
unusual, atmospheric locations -
bringing people into environments they wouldn't usually associate with
film, and hand-picking the perfect
films to screen in these breathtaking locations.
The festival is also giving a total
of £10,000 in awards for
filmmakers, across a range of
categories.
Festival director Xanthe Hamilton said: “Rolling off the success of the first year Branchage
is back in 2009 with even more gusto. This year we have really honed our
programming style, and with even more
unusual venues we will be taking films into fitting and interesting
spaces, offering our audiences a
whole new cinema experience.
“The film
programme is vast and diverse, and
this year we have a very strong educational and industry strand and in true
Branchage style a heavy helping of live music and party madness. This year we
are proud to be inviting several filmmakers from around the world to present
their films in Jersey, and we are
exited about our new partnerships
with the US based True/False Documentary Film Festival and a radio show coming
live out of the festival on air in New Jersey and New
York.”

The 8th Two Short Nights Film Festival is set to showcase some of
the most exciting and diverse short films from the UK and abroad. This
year, the much anticipated Phoenix Media bursary films
will again be premiered on the Saturday night as well as the two new
Devon County Council, UK Film Council and South West Screen supported Digital Shorts, which will be premiering along side the other Exeter Phoenix supported films from the year.
For the second year running we will be hosting the 'Two Long Days - 48 Hour Film Challenge' and the 'Guerrilla Filmmaking workshop' as well as a new South West Screen funded event, the 'Media Mashup Conference'
where you can join film professionals in discussions, network with
other filmmakers from the region and watch more inspiring films from
the South West.
The premiere screening of the Phoenix Media Bursary Films has sold out
well in advance over previous years, so we strongly advise early
booking.
Documenta Madrid is an international film festival dedicated exclusively to documentary film. Its offices are located in the capital of Spain and it is organized by the City of Madrid. It is presently the city's most widely-attended festival.
The festival was born for the purpose of strengthening and disseminating the documentary genre, in so far as it understood to be a reflection of the social, cultural, economic, artistic, environmental, and other realities that exist in the world.
From the selection of films, which is done exclusively using qualitative criteria and respect for any and all critical viewpoints of our surroundings, Documenta seeks to provide an annual meeting place for professionals, creators, and the public to whom the work is aimed.
Documenta is a continuously evolving festival and aspires to improve year after year as a showcase for the best in international documentary film, one which brings us closer to both the classics as well as the latest offerings in the genre. For this reason, we dedicate our attention equally to three general blocks of activities: screenings (in both public and private screening rooms, and conserving the original language and formats), parallel activities (publications, exhibitions, presentations, gatherings, round tables, DVD releases, etc.), and training activities (conferences, instructional classes, workshops, etc.).
Our understanding of the documentary is based on a dual commitment. Firstly, a commitment to aesthetics, which shows how present day documentary filmmaking breaks new ground in its language and form, thus distancing itself for the most part from the standardized norms. Secondly, we are convinced that non-fiction work makes us all more aware of the need to change the world in order to improve it. Our most intimate calling, our dream, is that by opening some windows to the world in each screening, we make an audience member aware of an issue, and thereby make that person reflect on it, make the issue his/her own, and perhaps then... do something about it.
Along with this wish, two other priorities for the festival are to further enjoy making Documenta Madrid a reality and to make the guests and attendees feel at home among us.
DOCUMENTA MADRID have opened the inscription for Documenta Madrid 10. This is the second year we request PREMIER IN SPAIN REQUIRED. Access to the registration online clicking here.
(The registration deadline for films is December 31, 2009.)
DOCUMENTA MADRID 10 will have four competitive sections:

Whether it is a dramatic or comedic piece, we want screenwriters and filmmakers to share their great stories in regards to the world of sports. We felt that creating this festival would give the many sports fanatics out there an outlet for their love of competition.
Some people have asked us to define "sports." Well, we want to include any subject matter that deals with mental and physical competition for the sake of winning a prize (and not killing anyone along the way to do it). So we're ready to watch and read any stories from auto racing to badminton and spelling bees to chess.

YoungCuts Film Festival is the Premiere Showcase of Great Short Films by the World's Best Young Filmmakers.
The Festival features short films under 30 minutes long produced by emerging filmmakers under 30 years old and serves as a launch pad for filmmaker careers, providing exposure and recognition for some of the most exciting new talent from around the globe - student film makers and non- student film makers alike.
Established in 2001, every year, the festival selects its Top 100 International Short Films from more than a thousand films from over 30 countries.
Unlike many film festivals, YoungCuts is not a black box. For filmmakers making paid submissions, we offer feedback when and where appropriate; we present their short films to our film industry partners including producers, distributors and programmers - this has led to short films being presented on TV, licensed for outdoor festivals and programmed by other film festivals who view us an expert on short films by young filmmakers. With your paid submission, you also gain privileged access to watch, vote and be inspired by great short films from young filmmakers around the world.
