One of the films premiering on the Berlinale red carpet today is The Dinner starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Steve Coogan and Rebecca Hall. The film is directed by Oren Moverman and based on the novel by Herman Koch.
Initially the film had been developed for Cate Blanchett, who had expressed interest in having her directorial debut, but was later attached to Moverman.
A lot of interesting fac...

Today, tucked away in the beautiful Hotel Eden on Rue D'Antibe was a very informational panel on the importance of digital marketing and strategic planning for the film industry. Kicked off by a selection of short films ranging from 2 to 15 minutes selected by the panelists, the 3 hour event was filled with useful information, intruiging dialogue and enjoyable films.
Benedicte Beaugeois from Film Festival Life stated, “The opportunities of ...
During the festival here in Cannes, there is a whole other world outside of the screenings. However, this world is only accessible to those with a badge. A winding line is always present outside the palais and market but on the first day, my cinephile badge (one that allows me to go to certain film screenings) did not allow me to get in. I soon found out just how many different kinds and levels of badges there were. Black, yellow, blue, white, and others but what really is the ...

The SANTA CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL is a film festival that not only celebrates the art and entertainment of film in all of its forms, but also Santa Catalina Island in all of its rich history, glory, and beauty.
Through screenings and associated events, the festival aims to present a wide spectrum of filmmaking - feature films, documentaries, screenplays, animation, short films, experimental, student work, big budget, micro-budget, trailers and soon…
The SANTA CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL awards mainstream films in various categories, but the Isla Earth Award, for the Conservation Series, is presented by the Catalina Island Conservancy, our beneficiary, honoring filmmakers that have their similar mission in protecting, educating and promoting the power of nature.
The SANTA CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL brings film enthusiasts and filmmakers together to better enjoy the art and fun of filmmaking, but also to enjoy the beauty and hospitality of Santa Catalina Island.
The Film Festival offers our guests the opportunity to learn, grow and exhibit films within the unique and romantic setting of Los Angeles County’s Pacific treasure. The festival will also offer attendees quality films that will entertain, educate, and inspire their own interests. Film professionals, and the interested public, will have the opportunity to gain industry knowledge through festival activities,
education centers, and seminars with our guest speakers.
The SANTA CATALINA FILM FESTIVAL is about the filmmakers’ opportunity to entertain, educate and inspire their audience, just like the island itself.
If you’re reading this, chances are you know what to expect; smart-ass remarks, a turn of a phrase and a decent amount of cleverly placed sarcasm and profanity, which is why I so enjoy the Independent Spirit Awards. Spirited aptly describes the entire day from weather to wardrobe, from nominees to winners, from one open bar to the next with Jameson shots and Stella Artois chasers, some sponsor favorites among many a guest. But the flowing alcohol certainly wasn’t needed to loo...
The improvised press conference room, behind a thick set of red velvet curtains, would probably be best described as "Iranian". A homely, cosy middle eastern feel with chairs in neat rows, leather sofas edging the walls and the screen behind the panel's desk. The festival director, Pejman Danaei, wanted to make clear the reasons for the existence of the festival:- A a platform to showcase the great cinema that is coming out of Iran and Iranians all over the world and encourage the co...
Ben Miller's first delivery as a film director is just as amateur as it sounds. Miller, of British comedy duo Armstrong & Miller, should be able to tackle the subject of his first film better than anyone else: the nature of a comedy duo. However, the story of the film feels old, too predictable and doesn't add anything new to the "comedian film". The story basically tells the story of Warren and Clark, a would-be comedy duo who have more in common with an old couple tha...

Attention scoop: festivals aren't profitable. They're intended to help leverage the buzz of a film in order to get distribution. The festival circuit is unique as it sheds light on an amazing wealth of productions worldwide. The concept is terrific. However, often the concept is not understood properly. Festival means festive celebration. Festivals celebrate the 7th art. My mission is I accept it is not to sabotage a film or a festival but to report about the films, ambiance and what...
Leading up to the "inglorious Bastards" premier, Cannes was abuzz with talk of the highly anticipated film and fans desperate for tickets. So did Tarantino's film live up to the expectations?
The jury is still out-- but it seems most people were happy with what they saw. The crowds laughed, clapped, and gasped throughout the film.
