Boycott The Film Festivals Mandarines

Attention scoop: festivals aren't profitable.

They're intended to help leverage the buzz of a film in order to get distribution. The festival circuit is unique as it sheds light on an amazing wealth of productions worldwide. The concept is terrific.

However, often the concept is not understood properly. Festival means festive celebration. Festivals celebrate the 7th art. My mission is I accept it is not to sabotage a film or a festival but to report about the films, ambiance and whatnot.

So far, the LAFF has not inspired me anything but annoyance. You're cleared for the red carpet, but you can't see the film.

What's the point then?

Don't get me wrong. Some publicists are working their butt off to accommodate the press. But in their great majority, the studios publicists are obnoxious and arrogant. Sorry folks I'm done. There's no point in covering the Red Carpet and I'll gladly leave my spot to the noble  "crappoids"  makers such as TMZ, and likes.

Without films, festivals are nothing. Yet, as you discuss with distributors, you often hear them say how careless some festivals dignitaries can be. The more popular the festivals are, the more arrogant they behave for some reason. And popularity still doesn't equal profitability. (most attendants are the happy few ie. invited for free)

Festivals need the media very bad because without exposure, no coverage means no attendance. Ergo: no money. No profit for anyone.

There's no reason to publicize a festival, when it's only VIP driven. I refuse to serve the Mandarines heading the festivals, if the press is outcasted, and the very mission of festivals to launch emerging filmmakers, to help discover edgy, diverse, worldwide flix, and so on is not taken seriously.

At the present time, I have decided to boycott the LAFF!! Who's gonna be next?
