*Raindance Preview Review* HUGE (2010) dir Ben Miller

Ben Miller's first delivery as a film director is just as amateur as it sounds. Miller, of British comedy duo Armstrong & Miller, should be able to tackle the subject of his first film better than anyone else: the nature of a comedy duo. However, the story of the film feels old, too predictable and doesn't add anything new to the "comedian film". The story basically tells the story of Warren and Clark, a would-be comedy duo who have more in common with an old couple than, say, Morecombe & Wise (whom Warren emulates and, subsequently, tries to emulate). Although it is an unexpected turn by Noel Clarke, usually known for his tough boy characters, the surprises stop there.

This could have been much better than it is, and even the presence of the biggest names in comedy would never be able to salvage it. It is a shame, Miller having been involved in the world of comedy for so long, should know better. Also, the movie cannot shake off a small screen sensibility - perhaps the proof of Miller's long standing involvement with TV.

There is a serious problem when a film about a comedy duo has only one joke. And not even a funny one.

Perhaps one of the unlikeliest selections of Raindance this year.
