About the Director: 

Elise Swerhone, director of TuTuMuch, a theatrical feature documentary about aspiring ballerinas, is an award winning producer, director and writer of both documentary and dramatic programming. Her most recent documentaries include: Ballet High, a feature length documentary about the graduating class of the professional school at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, made for BRAVO!; The Science of the Senses: Hearing which aired on the CBC’s The Nature of Things in January 2008. Restitution (about the return of Nazi looted art) for the CBC’s Witness, Drug Deals for CBC’s The Nature of Things and Me, My Brother and My Father’s Van Gogh also for CBC’s Witness. Swerhone has written, directed and edited episodes for the Gemini Award-winning series Recreating Eden and has recently directed a three-part series about young ballerinas for BRAVO! called Ballet Girls.

Nominations include US Cable Ace awards, Banff Television Rockies, and numerous international television awards. </p> <p> Her dance feature drama Dracula - Pages from a Virgin's Diary, directed by noted auteur Guy Maddin was named one of Canada's Top Ten Feature Films, and made the Village Voice NEW YORK Critics list of the top10 films of 2003, in addition to winning numerous international film festival awards, Geminis, Blizzards and an International Emmy. </p>

TuTuMUCH follows 9 young dancers behind-the-scenes where they plié and pirouette for coveted spots in an intensive 4 week professional ballet summer program. Leaving behind their families and friends, often for the first time, each girl confronts in her own way the painstaking and sometimes rewarding realities of actually living her dream. TuTuMUCH is a glimpse of how it feels to embark on a career of dance at the age of twelve.
