The Fingal Film Festival


The Fingal Film Festival will take place from the 30th September to the 2nd October 2016 at Pavilions Centre, Swords, Co Dublin. Now in its fifth year, the Festival connects emerging voices in film with industry experts and independent creative filmmakers from around the world. The programme will feature shorts, documentaries, and animation as well as student and international films, Irish language films by emerging and established filmmakers, which will be in the running for the prestigious awards.

There is a total of nine awards up for grabs this year. The categories are: Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Feature Film, Best Animation Film, Best Student Film, Scannán Gaeilge Is Fearr (Best Irish Language Film) and Best Fingal Newcomer (Director / Writer / Producer). The ninth category is for Outstanding Media Achievements (Documentary / Journalism / Director / Producer / Writer).

The mission of the festival is to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience.

EDUCATION - Whilst our predominant focus is to support and develop relationships with Fingal’s emerging film makers, the festival also offers a diverse culture screening schedule, with 25%% of screenings coming from international emerging filmmakers’ creative works. 

FILM MAKERS - Creating opportunities for filmmakers through  connections with industry professionals & one-on-one guidance. We strive to garnish talent by giving emerging filmmakers access to some of the world’s leading Industry Professionals during the festival through training groups and workshops.

The mission of the festival is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience." We have one of the fastest youngest populations in Ireland, and geographically central to some of the leading media training colleges. It is part of The Fingal Film Festival's role is to engage with these colleges and play an integral part in their academic year, our aim in the next five years is to engage our festivals programmes to other internationally Media colleges .

ABOUT US                                                                                                                                                                       The Fingal Film Festival was launched in 2012 it is a new entity that offers a platform encouraging and promoting the works of local film community and National, International emerging filmmakers to showcase their work in an environment where they have access to experienced industry professionals, We provide workshops. training programmes and screen Independent films from new emerging film makers nationally and internationally throughout the four day festival  event every year.

At least 70% of our festival schedule is dedicated to Foreign films, which broadens the film culture experience to all who attend the screenings in Fingal during the festivals duration,

The Fingal Film Festival is a team of people who work effortlessly to deliver a quality service to young emerging filmmakers, Over the years we have developed relationships with most of the media colleges on the perimeters of Fingal and have had contributions to the festival form part of the colleges’ curriculum. In 2013 we introduced an award specifically for students of these colleges. It is part of our strategy to roll this initiative out on a National scale in the coming years. Since we first opened our doors we have given festival contributors access to some of the Industries most prolific names, both nationally and internationally, which has been well received by all who attended.The Fingal Film Festival is another option for filmmakers who want a platform to have their voice heard.
