New York's Beneath the Earth Film Festival is a year-long search for independent films that serves as a catalyst for outstanding projects to reach a global audience. Four seasonal competitions are held throughout the year during which work of high production quality, clever writing and strong performances are offered the chance to be reviewed by authorities in the film world. The winners of each season then go on to compete for the culminating grand prize. All winners will receive recognition and exposure as well as a monetary prize.

From within this, DAMNED proudly presents an exhibition of powerful cinema called Purgatory. Held on March 8th & 9th 2013 at the Tangent Gallery in Detroit, Purgatory will present various short films of deeply introspective, beautifully disturbing and darkly enlightening subject matters from filmmakers local and worldwide. This is not an industry-focused horror film festival, but a tributary showcase of the often redemptive films from the filmmaker’s personal damnations. The NY Shorts Fest provides a showcase for the best short-form cinema and its creators in the world. Created by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences accredited Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, LA Shorts Fest.

We feel that short form cinema and its creators should have their own premiere film festival in New York deserving similar recognition given to the feature film and its creators.

The 2nd NY Shorts Fest will be held in May 2013.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR DOCUMENTARIES WHICH ARE CONSIDERED BY THEIR CREATORS AS ART WORKS USING VIDEO AS A MEDIUM IN ALL ITS VARIETY. THE WORKS CAN BE OF A PERSONAL, SOCIAL OR IMPRESSIONISTIC NATURE.

-      FEATURE PIECES FROM 45 – 90 MINS.

-      ENTRY FEE: $20 FOR 1^st entry, $15 for 2^nd ENTRY.
