Eligibility and Rules


FEATURE-LENGTH MOVIES
Any feature-length movie (70-180 minutes) completed within the last two years may be submitted to this year’s Maverick Movie Awards. All discs and cases must be labeled with the title, running time, and submission number.

SHORT-LENGTH MOVIES
Any short-length movie (1-69 minutes) completed within the last two years may be submitted to this year’s Maverick Movie Awards. All discs and cases must be labeled with the title, running time, and submission number.


STUDENT-MADE MOVIES
Any feature-length (70-180 minutes) or short-length (1-69 minutes) movie created by a student completed within the last two years may be submitted to this year’s Maverick Movie Awards. A photocopy of a valid student ID that corresponds with the completion date of the movie must accompany all entries to the Student-made Movies category. If submitting an online screener, you must e-mail a JPEG of this information to info@maverickmovieawards.com with your submission number included in the subject line. Graduate-level work is accepted. Note: Submission for this award does NOT restrict eligibility for Feature-length or Short-length awards categories or prizes. All discs and cases must be labeled with the title, running time, and submission number.

FYI: Most qualifying submitters will be contacted for a DVD/Blu-ray screener prior to the MMA’s final judging process to give moviemakers the best possible screening scenario for concluding nominee and winner selections. BUT IF YOU INSIST ON SHIPPING YOUR SUBMISSION:

All submissions shipping out from anywhere in the world MUST BE SENT VIA REGULAR MAIL since FedEx, UPS, AND OTHER LIKE CARRIERS WILL NOT DELIVER TO A USPS P.O. BOX. If shipping within the United States, please SHIP FIRST CLASS or PRIORITY MAIL ONLY; DO NOT SEND ANYTHING “SIGNATURE REQUIRED,” INSURED, PARCEL POST, OR REGISTERED MAIL since these tend to prove problematic for delivery and/or receipt of submission materials. If shipping to the MMA from outside of the United States, please endeavor to ship using a method that does NOT require a recipient signature for delivery or proof of insurance since either tends to prove problematic for delivery and/or receipt of submission materials. DO NOT SEND PRESS KITS, STILLS, OR OTHER PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS.

Secure Online Screeners is a revolutionary service provided by our submissions service provider, Withoutabox.com. This no-waste link between the moviemaker and the MMA staff is a perfect complement to Withoutabox.com’s paperless online submission website. All video screeners are SECURELY HOSTED by WAB’s parent company, IMDb.com, and ACCESS IS RESTRICTED to the moviemaker and the MMA. There is NOT a submission fee reduction for submitting an online screener.

NONNEGOTIABLE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Excluding commercial and industrial work, all motion pictures are eligible for up to twenty-one (21) Maverick Awards in both the Features and Shorts categories. Unless there are no qualifiers for a specific award, one (1) Maverick Award honor is given to one (1) of two-to-ten (2-10) nominees in the Features category and one (1) of two-to-fifteen (2-15) in the Shorts category for up to twenty-one (21) “Best” awards. Student-made feature-length and short-length movies will also be eligible to receive “Best” awards and/or nominations in all applicable Features and/or Shorts award categories. Award and nominee selections are made by the cooperative’s judges and/or directors and are final. Submitted films may not withdraw after submission is registered at Withoutabox.com. Nominees and winners will be posted at our website at the close of each season. Excluding sponsored prizes where applicable, the Maverick Movie Awards does not provide trophies, plaques, paper certificates, or any type of material Maverick Award; however, the MMA does provide winners and nominees with access to free downloadable Maverick Award certificates. If selected, the moviemaker, controlling company, and/or submitter grants unrestricted rights/permission to the Maverick Movie Awards to list and promote the winning and/or nominated movie (not the movie itself, trailers, or any online content), its advertising/promotional material(s), as well as any individual, group, company, and/or organization listed in the movie credits for the life of the Maverick Movie Awards. The Maverick Movie Awards does not pay any fees to list and/or promote submitted and/or selected movies or associated promotional/advertising material(s). The moviemaker, controlling company, and/or submitter attests that any and all image, music, and/or other applicable rights have been legally cleared and granted. If nominated, upon notification, the moviemaker, controlling company, and/or submitter will be required to provide the MMA with a DVD or Blu-ray screener for archival purposes and ship discs/etc. to the MMA within a month of notification. If not selected (and also as this may apply to those selected as Maverick Award winners or nominees), the moviemaker, controlling company, and/or submitter agrees to act like a grownup person (even if you are a minor) and not to sue or threaten to sue the Maverick Movie Awards, its parent company, its directors, staff, volunteers, sponsors, affiliates, and/or partners, or to take legal action or inflict litigation of any kind, and furthermore promises not to crank call us, write us flaming e-mails, or write, publish, and/or disseminate any derogatory whining or disgruntled rants anywhere, including Internet postings, blogs, tweets, etc., etc., etc. By submitting to the Maverick Movie Awards the moviemaker, controlling company, and/or submitter agrees that he/she has the right and authority to submit and has read, fully understands, and unconditionally agrees to all of the Maverick Movie Awards’ submission guidelines and the complete terms and conditions of the Maverick Movie Awards.
