For most of the planet, the official end of summer does not come until the autumn equinox on September 21. However, for people in the film industry, the Fall season begins in only a few weeks, with the beginning of the autumn film festival cycle. Kicking off (startingly early this year) in Montreal on August 18 with the Montreal World Film Festival and then dashing across the pond to the Venice Film Festival, which begins on August 28, and then back across to the Toronto Film Festival, ...
28 July: Day 4
Day 4 was filled with very serious movies and a light-hearted Canadian doccie that had its first screening outside North America.
I loved St Henri, the 26th of August, maybe its because of my journalistic background as we're always trying to find these little stories in the community - the hairstylist, the boxer, the shopkeeper. It's candy to the soul.
This Montreal suburb, although it seems ghetto-like, has wonderful characters and the 14 filmmakers did a fine job to f...

A hundred years after the climbing and scientific expedition of Duke of the Abruzzi to the Baltoro glacier in Karakorum, a team of scientists and photographers, lead by photographer and alpinist Fabiano Ventura, is following in his footsteps with the aim of carrying out an accurate analysis of the climate change effects and to compile for the first time a visual record of the transformations that have taken place in the Baltoro glacier during the last century.
By comparing Vittorio Sella’s and Massimo Terzano’s photographs with those of Fabiano Ventura , as well as through data collection on field and laboratory analysis, the purpose of the mission is to highlight the environmental and glacier changes that have taken place over the last century in the most sensitive and relevant system, that is cryosphere.
At present, it is widely recognized at scientific as well as at public level that glaciers represent a reliable indicator of the global climate and environmental changes that our planet is experiencing.

A married couple appear to have all the trappings of wealth, success and happiness, but both Amelia and Michael have secrets from each other.
Michael drops off Amelia for lunch, but once the car is out of sight, Amelia removes her wedding ring and travels to an alternative destination. Michael, however, appears the perfect husband, organising a romantic dinner. But things are not always as they first appear. Amelia goes again to her secret destination: a hospital, where she is visiting a Lover who has been paralysed in a motorbike accident. Michael’s dinner is with a Call-Girl. After she has left his hotel room, he tries to sleep but can’t and is disturbed by a phone call from his work colleague Francis who has discovered his whereabouts.
Amelia uncovers evidence of Michael’s duplicity, but before she can act, the phone rings. She rushes to the hospital, but arrives to find her Lover has already died. Amelia returns to find Michael in the kitchen, who mistakenly assumes his infidelity is the cause of Amelia’s distress. He tries to explain but she silences him.
Amelia and Michael sit in the car in silence. A motorbike stops next to them; an incidental detail of the opening scene which now acquires a poignant and arresting meaning - representing the lost vitality of youth and love. AMELIA AND MICHAEL addresses the discrete, multi-faceted and often contradictory personas people present to each other and asks whether it is possible to truly know another person or even yourself.

This is the trailer for Drat, an award-winning animted film by Farzin Farzaneh. It is produced by Lachrymose Films in Montreal, Canada. Please take a moment to visit the website at:
http://www.lachrymosefilms.com/dratpage1.html
Director: Farzin Farzaneh.
Drat is a gothic tale of a woman living alone in a country house. Her solitary routine is disrupted when she suspects that some kind of animal is trying to invade her home. Her suspicion turns into obsession as she tries in vain to keep the creature out. These efforts, along with the woman's growing anguish, are the primary focus of film. The woman finally confronts the intruder in her basement; however, all is not well. The landscape surrounding her abode rustles and heaves restlessly, and the roots of a nearby tree threaten to crack the very foundations of the woman's house. This is the story of one person’s lonely attempts to hold on to the small haven that she has carved out of her environment, and to keep it secure against the outside forces of nature. To her chagrin, she finds that the natural environment does not always recognise her exclusive right to such comforts.
