Scottish Film A Life in August presented in Cannes

First time director Haston McLaren writes and directs A Life In August, is a low-budget unconventional love story set in Scotland.

McLaren states: 'A life in Augustis my directorial debut. In fact, prior to embarking upon this film, I had no experience whatsoever of the film industry. My camera experience was nothing more than pointing the lens at objects of interest on my travels. My background is in Music and Engineering. Both of which I have found to be invaluable in the making of my film. Much of the process of making a film is technical. Engineering skills migrate easily between different disciplines. While at first, engineering and art may seem strange bedfellows, having combined both in my life proved to be a tremendous benefit in film making. This allowed me more direct control over the whole process, and equally importantly reduced the cost on the technical aspects of production. Which resulted in the finances being available to other areas of production.'

The Storyline: With her dancing career on hold and her baby due in three months, Lisa (Lisa Miller) is focused on saving her marriage; while husband Harry (Haston McLaren) seems more committed to his role as aviator than that of father. Lisa strives to make sense of Harry’s behaviour, but is unaware of the secret trauma that he is keeping from her. As their relationship begins to disintegrate, Harry has his own way of dealing with the crisis.

The film has been accepted at numerous film festivals and received awards and nominations, including The Los Angeles Film Award(Best Score), Bronze Best First-time filmmaker(Queen Palm Film Festival in Palm Springs), Award of Recognition for Feature Film & Award of Merit for Actress Leading(Indiefest LA). A life in August continues its festival journey.
