Ramses Marzouk Pharaoh of the camera holds his exhibition at the MIFF

Dr. Ramses Marzouk is one of the most popular Egyptian cinematographers. The Malta International Film Festival will organize an exhibition collecting a selection of photos from his most successful films.

The exhibition counts more then 100 images, it will follow and document the history of Egyptian cinema throughout Marzouk’s work from black and white till his most recent features.

Ramses Marzouk has worked as the director of photography in more than 50 feature films and many other short and documentary films.

Ramses was born in Giza, Egypt on June 1, 1940. He studied at Cairo High Film Institute and graduated in 1963. After graduation he went to Italy to continue his studies. From there he went to France where he received his doctorate from the prestigious Sorbonne University. His photographic work was exhibited at the French Cinématheque on two separate occasions, first in 1968 and then again in 1970. In 1979 his combined works of photography and films were shown in a special tribute at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. As a director of photography Ramses has collected more than 50 international and national awards during his 40 years career in Egyptian Cinema. He has been tribute about 10 time in international festivals and participated as a jury member in many international festivals.

He was the first director of photography to be listed in the International Movie Database. He has been mentioned in the acclaimed book “World Cinema Diary of a day” by Mitchell Beazley, a celebration of the centenary of cinema, and also in the French book “Dictionnaire des nouveaux cinémas arabes” by Claude Michel Cluny.

For the first time Malta will celebrate International Cinema in a huge international film festival under the name of “Malta International Film Festival” from the 15th till 23rd September 2007. The event is organized by – Association pour l'échange culturel entre l'Europe et l'Orient (AECEO) an association based in Paris with the cooperation of AraMage Artistic Production, a leading international production company and AJR Events a leading event management company in Malta with the support of the Maltese Ministry of tourism and culture. The festival board has approached a number of international celebrities to participate in the first round as guests, tributes and jury members. Also a number of international cinema organizations and companies have been approached to participate in this event. The festival will have more than five different sections with an international competition for long feature films. An international film market will be held during the festival with participation of more than 50 international companies and organizations than and the festival will held more than ten different activities. The festival aims to promote Malta as a desirable film shooting location and to open a dialogue between cinema professionals all over the world.
