JURY MEMBERS

 

INTERNATIONAL JURY OF THE OFFICIAL FANTASTIC CINEMA SECTION

 

MÁRTA BÉNYEI

Born in Hungary. Expert with over 35 years of experience in the film industry. She started out as a market specialist and rights buyer. Responsible for the Festivals Department of the National Film Institute of Hungary since 2004, deputy representative of Hungary in the Eurimages Program and collaborator of Fantasporto for decades. Participant in Movie Talks.

LAWRENCE TROTT (United Kingdom) British film critic, writer and filmmaker, former director of the Audiovisual Service British police for many years. Member of the Fantastic Cinema jury. He is preparing his novel “Escape”, about the escape of a Kurdish family to England. He also participates in MOVIE TALKS talking about “MOVIE POTENTIAL AND WRITING MOVIES”.

SANDRA HENRIQUES(Portugal) editor and director of “Fábrica do Terror”

LUÍS ROSALES (Spain) Film critic, editor of the “SciFi” magazine and director of the Nocturna (Madrid) and Ourense (Galicia) festivals.

DIRECTORS' WEEK AND ORIENT EXPRESS

 

ANTHONY WALLER (GB) - Director and producer of “An American Werewolf in Paris”, winner of the Grand Prize and Audience Award at the Gérardmer festival in 1998. Member of the Directors' Week Jury. Presents at Fantasporto 2023, out of competition, a new copy of his classic “Mute Witness” from 1995 in the Fantasclassics section.

PEDRO FARATE (Portugal) Director of photography and director, he was responsible for the photography of several hits of Portuguese cinema, namely “Noturna” 82014), “” Pecado fatal”, “Balança” (2014), “A Sublime Life” (2018) and “Já nada Sei”, which was awarded Best Photography at the Treasure Coast International Film Festival (USA) in 2022, presented out of competition at Fantasporto 2023.

MARINA ANNA EICH (Germany) German actress and producer, born in 1976, known for “Break” (2009), “The Truth of Lie” (2011), screened at Fantasporto, “Illusion” (2013), “Taste of Life” (2017) or “Roland Reber's Cabareth of Death” (2019).

ISABEL PINA (Portugal) Director and producer . “ 40 Anos do Fantasporto” is the first feature film by the director who previously directed the short films “Motorphobia (2014) and (In )Sanidade (2011). He also produced several short films such as “The Baby” (2011), “Alexandria” (2012), “Kalil! (2014) or “Intrinsecus” (2018). Member of the Filmmakers' Week Jury. Participates in MOVIE TALKS in the debate “AFTER THE MOVIE - THE CROSSROADS OF PORTUGUESE CINEMA”

PORTUGUESE CINEMA AWARD

 

LUÍS MOYA - Director who won the Fantasporto Public Prize in 2022 with “Por Detrás da Moeda”, among other international awards, and the Portuguese Film Prize in 2013 with “Mia Mia Sudan Tamam Tamam” (2013 ). He also made “Night Tea” (2021). Participates in the MOVIE TALKS in the debates “FROM CINEMA EDUCATION TO CONCRETIZATION” and “AFTER THE FILM - THE CROSSROADS OF PORTUGUESE CINEMA ”.

DANYEL GUERRA- Journalist, writer and historian born in Brazil. As a journalist, he worked for the newspapers Notícias da Tarde, Jornal de Notícias and Correio da Manhã. More recently, he has published in the magazines Athena, eSTUPIDa, InComunidade. Among the published books are Oito e Demy (2014) and O Português do Cinemoda (2015).

REGINA MACHADO – Born in 1988. Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts. Works in film production, communication and/or programming. He is on the board of Cineclube do Porto. In 2014, he joined Casa da Animação, and in 2018, he took over its management.
