Day 6 at Fantasporto: 2 films

Le Prince de ce Monde (in fantastic competion)

One of the most popular sub-genres of terror movies is the one about diabolical possessions, seen in films such as "Repulsion", "The Exorcist" and "The Omen".
Father Donato hopes to find peace in a small village, far from worldly temptations. But Baroness De Bailleux, a young nymphomaniac aristocrat, has other plans for the cleric. Bewitched by the sensuality of the baroness, Donato finds himself involved in a web of satanic rituals led by another diabolical priest. Donato enters a hellish spiral of temptations that leads him to madness. The devil is among us.

Directed by Manuel Gómez

Manuel Gomez was born on the 14th March 1956, in Mont-sur-Marchienne in
Belgium. An Artist and filmmaker, he was member of the Jury in Fantasporto 2005. He has  his  art work in exhibition in several museums around the world. As a filmmaker he has an extensive filmography in short films like "L'Encadre", "Peccato", "In Vino Veritas" and "Ubu".

Hansel & Gretel (in fantastic competion)

Saturated colors and an environment full of toys. But beyond that, nothing in this "Hansel & Gretel" reminds us of a fairy tale. Not even of "Alice in Wonderland"... It all begins when a man has an accident and seeks help in a house in the middle of a forest. Three children live there, apparently abandoned by their parents. However, with no telephone available and no means of contacting the outside world and, even worse, without being able to go and get help, the man becomes an unwilling protector of children, after all not so good and innocent. Who are they? What hides in their past?
The classic tale "Hansel and Gretel" is slightly visited in this very scary high-budget Korean movie, leaving the viewer an acrid taste of originality and many chills.

Directed by Pil-Sung Yim

Following a promising debut in "Antartic Journal", which won the best oriental film  award in the Sites festival in 2005, Pil-Sung Yim subverts one of the best known children's tale. Usually the writer of his films,  he participated as an actor in "The Host", best film award in Fantasporto 2007.
