The Nothern Film Festival announces Interregional Competition

The Northern Film Festival has selected eight film for the Interregional Competition 2011. The complete lineup, comprising first or second feature films concur for the Matad’Or and a cash prize of 10.000 euro. Among the selected films are the controversial MICHAEL by Austrian Markus Schleinzer, who will attend the festival, Anca Damian’s animated feature CRULIC – THE PATH TO BEYOND (Romania, Poland), festival crowd favourite TYRANNOSAUR by Paddy Considine (UK) and Norwegian coming-of-age film TURN ME ON, GODDAMMIT! by Jannicke Systad Jacobsen. The winner of the Interregional Competition 2011 will be announced on Sunday 13 November.

The Jury of the fifteenth Interregional Competition comprises György Pálfi, Hungarian filmmaker; Belgian dancer, choreographer, singer and actor Sam Louwyck; Polish-Dutch filmmaker Urszula Antoniak; Greek Maria Hatzakou, producer of ATTENBERG and Giorgos Lanthimos’ ALPS, and Dana Linssen, philosopher, poet and film critic of the Dutch national newspapers NRC and Filmkrant.

The winner of the Interregional Competition 2011 will be announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday November 13 in Leeuwarden.

BEYOND (SVINALÄNGORNA) by Pernilla August (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, 2010)

CRULIC – THE PATH TO BEYOND (CRULIC – DRUMUL SPRE DINCOLO) by Anca Damian (Romania, Poland, 2011) – Dutch premiere
Guest: Anca Damian (director) will be attending the festival from Saturday 12 till Sunday 13 November.

MAJORITY (ÇOGUNLUK) by Seren Yüce (Turkey, 2010)

MICHAEL by Markus Schleinzer (Austria, 2011)
Guest: Markus Schleinzer (director) will be attending the festival from Friday 11 till Saturday 12 November.

TURN ME ON, GODDAMMIT! (FÅ MEG PÅ, FOR FAEN) by Jannicke Systad Jacobsen (Norway, 2011) – Dutch premiere
Guest: Jannicke Systad Jacobsen (director) will be attending the festival from Saturday 12 till Sunday 13 November.

TYRANNOSAUR by Paddy Considine (UK, 2010)

VOLCANO (ELDFJALL) by Rúnar Rúnarsson (Iceland, Denmark, 2011) – Dutch premiere
Guest: Rúnar Rúnarsson (director) will be attending the festival from Saturday 12 till Sunday 13 November.


The winner of the Interregional Competition 2011 will be announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday November 13 in Leeuwarden. Previous winners include TILVA ROSH by Nicola Lezaic (Serbia) last year, THE PORCELAIN DOLL by Péter Gárdos (Hungary) in 2004 and IL DONO by Michelangelo Frammartino (Italy) in 2003.
