The East End Film Festival came to a close

The East End Film Festival came to a close last week with an awards ceremony at Dalston’s Rio Cinema hosted by Perrier-winning comedians Noble & Silver. 8 days, 10 venues, over 20 feature films, countless short films, plus the panel sessions, networking, parties, and gigs by bands such as Youthmovies, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Spork, The Caesareans, and more – it was a full-on week, but was a massive success all round. Check out the action at

Best Short Film (Jury Award):
ERIC’S SECRETS (Lucia Ashmore)
Jury - Verena Stackelberg (Curzon Cinemas), Rebecca Mark-Lawson (Lifesize Pictures), Perry Benson (actor, THIS IS ENGLAND, SOMERS TOWN), Charlie Hanson (producer, EXTRAS)

Best Short Film (Audience Award):
THE GAMES (Hilary Powell)

Best UK Debut Feature Film:
TANTRIC TOURISTS (Alexander Snelling)
Jury – Jason Solomons (film critic) + East End Film Festival programme team

A special thanks to all the filmmakers, panellists, bands, collaborators, media partners, our special guests from Estonia (director Ilmar Raag [KLASS]) and Czech Republic (actress Sandra Novakova [PUSINKY]), and all the audiences and punters that attended across the 8 days.

The East End Film Festival 2008 was brought to you by: Stephanie Turnbull (director), Alison Poltock (producer), Philip Ilson (programmer), Kirsty MacDiarmid (assistant), Stuart Haggas (press & marketing), Paul Edge (volunteer co-ordinator), Ana Maria Boschi (filmmakers centre co-ordinator), Marco Spamberg (website), Kate Rogers (design), Jan Nazewski (programming advisor), and of course all the volunteers….
