Awards of the 24th International İstanbul Film Festival

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
The International Jury of the 24th International İstanbul Film Festival was presided over by Jane Campion (director, New Zealand) and composed of Valentina Cervi (actress, Italy), Jan Chapman (producer, Australia), Meltem Cumbul (actress, Turkey), Robert Daudelin (film critic, Canada), Monty Montgomery (producer, USA) and Yeşim Ustaoğlu (director, Turkey).

The GOLDEN TULIP Award has been given ex aequo to La femme de Gilles / Gilles' Wife by Frédéric Fonteyne (Belgium – France - Luxembourg - Italy – Switzerland) and Kohi Jikou / Café Lumière by Hou Hsiao-hsien (Japan).

The jury has decided to equally pay tribute to two very different cinematic approaches. Both these films are distinguished by their courageous and provocative choices as well as their insightful and highly realised vision.

NATIONAL COMPETITION

The National Jury of the 24th International İstanbul Film Festival presided over by Rekin Teksoy (film critic, Turkey) and composed of Selma Güneri (actress, Turkey), Sandra den Hamer (Rotterdam Film Festival director, Holland), Uğur İçbak (cinematographer, Turkey) and Hasan Bülent Kahraman (art critic, Turkey) has decided to give:

* The BEST TURKISH FILM OF THE YEAR Award to Anlat İstanbul / İstanbul Tales directed by Ümit Ünal, Kudret Sabancı, Selim Demirdelen, Yücel Yolcu, Ömür Atay for its success in masterly combining, and conveying five separate stories with a dynamic narrative.
* The BEST DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR Award to Uğur Yücel for his film Yazı Tura / Toss Up for his mastery in employing contemporary cinematic language.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey gave a monetary prize of 40.000 YTL to each of the above-mentioned winners.

* The BEST ACTOR Award to Olgun Şimşek for his performance in Yazı Tura / Toss Up.
* The BEST ACTRESS Award to Yelda Reynaud for her performance in Anlat İstanbul / İstanbul Tales.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey gave a monetary prize of 10.000 YTL to each of the above-mentioned winners.

* The SPECIAL PRIZE OF THE JURY went to the cinematographer Eyüp Boz, for bringing forth the impact of the film Meleğin Düşüşü / Angel's Fall by creating an atmosphere of natural light.

FIPRESCI AWARDS

The FIPRESCI Jury of the 24th International İstanbul Film Festival presided over by Marcel Martin (France) and composed of Joao Antunes (Portugal), Ingeborg Bratoeva (Bulgaria), Çiğdem Kömürcüoğlu (Turkey), Yeşim Tabak (Turkey) and Goradz Trusnovec (Slovenia) gave:

* The FIPRESCI Award in the International Competition to Innocence directed by Lucile Hadzihalilovic (Belgium – France – United Kingdom)
* The FIPRESCI Award in the National Competition, in memory of Onat Kutlar, to Meleğin Düşüşü / Angel's Fall directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu.

As in the previous years, Efes Pilsen has given a prize of 30.000 USD to the winner of the Onat Kutlar Prize, Semih Kaplanoğlu, to be used for his next film project.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS sponsor ed by the Radikal Newspaper and determined by the votes of the Festival audience, are given to:

* Innocence by Lucile Hadzihalilovic (Belgium – France – United Kingdom) in the International Competition, and Yazı Tura / Toss up by Uğur Yücel in the National Competition.
