TWO EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES TO JOIN THE CORNWALL FILM FESTIVAL TEAM

FESTIVAL DIRECTOR AND FESTIVAL COORDINATOR REQUIRED 

Cornwall Film Festival is a vibrant Festival focusing on Cornish filmmaking, offering local and national premieres, master classes, workshops, discussions and parties for everyone from the enthusiast to the professional. The Festival runs from 12th - 15th November 2009 across two venues offering the opportunity to see Cornish Filmmaking at it's best.

The Festival requires a Director and a Festival Coordinator to organise the 2009 Cornwall Film Festival and beyond.

Festival Director - £8,000 for a 5-month freelance contract for services starting August 1st 2009
Festival Co-ordinator - £4,000 for a 12-month (part-time) contract employment starting August 1st 2009

Festival Director Job Description


Role: Festival Director
Dates: Aug 09 – Dec 09
Fee: £8,000
Responsible to: Cornwall Film Festival Board of Trustees
Job Purpose: To artistically shape & deliver the 2009 Cornwall Film Festival, Screen Actions and other associated projects on time and within budget. To work with Festival Coordinator to source and confirm continuing funding, especially developing relationships with sponsors.


Responsibilities: 

  • Working with the Festival Board, and the Festival Coordinator, help develop a long-term sponsorship strategy.
  • Devise programme and liaise with guest speakers, film bookings and events
  • Schedule the festival screenings and events
  • Deliver all Festival projects to a high standard on time and within budget. This will involve working closely with project co-ordinators and with support from the Steering Group.
  • Present additional events over the Festival including; evening feature films and guest speakers, practical workshops and masterclasses, functions, specialist screenings and any other events.
  • Present touring screening events, e.g. Another Country as required.
  • Facilitate the delivery of Screen Actions (Cornwall’s Young Peoples Film Festival). This will include attending steering group meetings, working with the project co-ordinator, liaising with Schools and youth groups involved with the project, mentoring and ensuring the event is delivered on time within budget.
  • Developing the Festival budget, which will include expected income and expenditure from £50,000 to £70,000.
  • Oversee the design and print of all Festival literature. Writing copy for the brochure, sourcing translations, laying out the brochure, co-ordinating proof reading and signing off final print.
  • Overseeing all press and marketing activities including press releases, magazine articles, liaising with local and national media to ensure coverage of the Festival and carrying out TV and Radio interviews.
  • Liaise with Trustees and Steering Group on progress of Festival, including producing and circulating monthly reports and attending regular meetings as required.

    Other duties

    The Festival Director may be required to undertake any other duties appropriate. 

Festival Coordinator Job Description

 

Role: Festival Coordinator
Dates:
 Part-time over 12 months from August 2009 
Hours of work: Part-time 8 hours / week, although during the Festival period, longer hours to be worked as required.
Fee: £4,000
Responsible to:
 Cornwall Film Festival Board of Trustees.

Line Manger: Report to Festival Director (when in post) for relevant issues. Otherwise to Board of Trustees with named Trustee as Line Manager.
Job Purpose: To coordinate the organisation of the Film Festival throughout the year, developing and updating systems, managing staff, schedules, budgets and funding strategy.


Responsibilities:

  • Putting systems into place which will ensure that the Festival Director and Assistant are aware of deadlines for funding targets, event bookings, brochure print dates, press deadlines and other venue requirements
  • Ensuring that the Festival has relevant and in accordance with up to date HSE policies and procedures as defined in law.
  • Managing the Festival budget that will include expected income and expenditure from £50,000 to £70,000.
  • Coordinating all Festival activities and working with the events team to ensure all events run smoothly and to time. This includes setting up Festival venues prior to the event, sourcing equipment, ensuring films play on equipment supplied, coordinating the get-out of the venue and working closely with the Front of House /volunteer manager. The director will also need to ensure the same for other CFF screenings and events such as Screen Actions, Best of the Fest , Another Country and Board Shorts.
  • Line management of Festival Staff and event freelancers.
  • Management of the Festival Office in Redruth.
  • Working with the Festival Assistant to ensure all guests and sponsors are thanked promptly after the Festival.
  • Undertaking an evaluation of the Festival.
  • Maintaining an accurate record of income and expenditure, Including overseeing payment of invoices and collection of income.
  • Ensuring all end of project reports are completed as required by funders.
