Charles Tesson Jury President

The Jury of the Feature Competition which is Presided by Charles Tesson, Artistic Director of Cannes' Semaine de la Critique.

(France) Charles Tesson is the Artistic Director of La Semaine de la Critique at Cannes Film Festival since 2012. He is also a film critic in Les Cahiers du Cinéma since 1979, and a former editor of this magazine. He teaches cinema, history and aesthetics at La Sorbonne Nouvelle (Université Paris III). He is the author of several books and essays on cinema, including Satyajit Ray (1992), Luis Buñuel (1995), El from Luis Buñuel (1996), Photogénie de la Série B (1997), Théâtre et cinéma (2007) and Akira Kurosawa (2008). He edited several special issues for Cahiers du Cinéma - including Made in Hong Kong (1984) with Olivier Assayas and Made in China (1999) - and co-edited the book L'Asie à Hollywood (2001). He has recently been the 2013 recipient of the Korean Cinema award at the 18th Busan International Film Festival.

Charles Tesson est le délégué général de la Semaine de la Critique au festival de Cannes depuis l’édition 2012. Il est actuellement critique aux Cahiers du cinéma où il a commencé en 1979, et ancien rédacteur en chef de cette revue (1998-2003). Il est professeur d’histoire et d’esthétique du cinéma à l’université de la Sorbonne nouvelle (Paris III). Il a publié plusieurs livres et essais sur le cinéma : Satyajit Ray (1992), Luis Bunuel (1995),El de Luis Bunuel (1996), Photogénie de la Série B (1997), Théâtre et cinéma (2007) et Akira Kurosawa (2008). Il a dirigé plusieurs numéros spéciaux des Cahiers du cinéma, comme « Made in Hong Kong » (1984) avec Olivier Assayas, « Made in China » (1999) et codirigé l’ouvrage L’Asie à Hollywood (2001).

 

ALICE KRIGE

Alice Krige Jury member

 

(South Africa) She has worked in the film and television industry continuously over a 33 year period as an actor (CHARIOTS OF FIRE; KING DAVID; STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT; CAPTIVE; SILENT HILL; THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE.) among others. She has been involved several remarkable art house films, amongst them are BARFLY with Mickey Rouke; HAUNTED SUMMER with Laura Dern, LONELY HEARTS with John Travolta and Selma Hayeck and the award winning SKIN with Sam Neill and Sophie Okenado.

Alice has acted in numerous TV films and mini-series in the USA and UK, was a leading lady at The Royal Shakespeare Company, playing Cordelia in Gambon’s KING LEAR, Miranda and Roxanne opposite Sir Derek Jacobi in THE TEMPEST and CYRANO DE BERGERAC.

She has received an Olivier Award, the Saturn Best Actress Award, an Ace Nomination and an Honorary Doctorate in Literature by Rhodes University, South Africa. She is the Producer of the film JAIL CAESAR - first feature, filmed in three prisons in three countries - South Africa, Wales and Drumheller. She is also co-producing and acting in a theatre version of Ingmar Bergman’s PERSONA.

Assunção Hernandes

Active in the film market for almost 40 years , has an extensive career since 2001 and chairs the Brazilian Congress of Cinema . His name is behind the production of over 40 films , of which about 15 feature films , some with international repercussions . In 1974 , he created with filmmaker João Batista de Andrade , the Root Motion Picture Productions , a company that became reality titles with strong social and political concern , as Doramundo (1978 ) , The man who turned Juice (1981 ) , the country 's lieutenants ( 1987) , the blind man who cried light ( 1997) , The trunk (1999 ) , and co-produced six unnumbered Street (2003 ) , all of João Batista de Andrade . Also produced for other directors , as Guilherme de Almeida Prado - A Dama cine Shanghai (1987 ) , best film and direction of the Festival Lawn and Scent of gardenia (1993 ) - and Suzana Amaral - The Hour of the Star (1985 ) which won the Silver Bear for Best Actress ( Marcélia Carterton ) at the Berlin Film Festival , and a life in secret (2001 ) . Florinda Balkan produced for the feature film I did not know Tururu (2002 ) , the directorial debut of actress Ceará living in Italy . Produced in 2003 , in partnership with Van Fresnot , in passing , the feature film debut of Ricardo Elias , best film and direction at the Festival Lawn . In 2007 , launched in Rio Festival Where will walk Dulce Veiga ? , Guilherme de Almeida Prado , which hit theaters the following year . He also produced documentaries Outside the garbage of Evaldo Mocarzel and Musicagen , Nereus Cerdeira and Edu Felistoque , both released in theaters in 2008 .

 

Atuante no mercado cinematográfico há quase 40 anos, possui uma extensa carreira e desde 2001 preside o Congresso Brasileiro de Cinema. Seu nome está por trás da produção de mais de 40 filmes, sendo cerca de 15 longas-metragens, alguns com repercussão internacional. Em 1974, criou, com o cineasta João Batista de Andrade, a Raiz Produções Cinematográficas, companhia que tornou realidade títulos com forte preocupação social e política, como Doramundo (1978), O homem que virou suco (1981), O país dos tenentes (1987), O cego que gritava luz (1997), O tronco (1999), e co-produziu Rua seis sem número (2003), todos de João Batista de Andrade. Produziu também para outros diretores, como Guilherme de Almeida Prado - A dama do cine Shangai (1987), melhor filme e direção do Festival de Gramado, e Perfume de gardênia (1993) - e Suzana Amaral - A hora da estrela (1985), que conquistou o Urso de Prata de melhor atriz (Marcélia Cartaxo) no Festival de Berlim, e Uma vida em segredo (2001). Produziu para Florinda Bolkan o longa-metragem Eu não conhecia Tururu (2002), estréia na direção da atriz cearense radicada na Itália. Em 2003 produziu, em parceria com Van Fresnot, De passagem, longa-metragem de estréia de Ricardo Elias, melhor filme e direção no Festival de Gramado. Em 2007, lançou no Festival do Rio Onde andará Dulce Veiga?, de Guilherme de Almeida Prado, que chegou aos cinemas no ano seguinte. Produziu também os documentários À margem do lixo, de Evaldo Mocarzel, e Musicagen, de Nereu Cerdeira e Edu Felistoque, ambos lançados nos cinemas em 2008. 

       

 

Donald Ranvaud  

Donald Ranvaud Jury member

Donald K. Ranvaud has been working in the film industry as a journalist and producer for several decades. In addition to his numerous published books, he founded the film magazine, Framework, and has free-lanced with several publications including Sight and Sound, The Guardian, and Cahiers du Cinema. He has spent much of his career as a producer, with a special interest in Latin American cinema and has garnered 12 Oscar nominations. He has produced dozens of acclaimed films including Life on a String, Farewell My ConcubineEstação Central (Central Station), Cidade de Deus (City of God), and The Constant Gardener. He is currently discovering and nurturing filmmakers as the President of the London-based film production company “Buena Onda.” He is also a consultant from 2012 of the World Bank’s initiative CONNECT4CLIMATE, a board member ofwww.indigenousfilmcircle.org and an active sponsor of humanitarian foundations such as www.medicinelleforeste.org

Zécarlos Machado is a Brazilian actor , best known for playing the therapist Theo Cecatto , star of the television series Session Therapy . Born Alfredo Marcondes , São Paulo , in 1950 . Moved to the state capital at age 15 and began studying theater arts at the Arts Foundation of São Caetano do Sul is one of the leading members of TAPA Group , acting in several plays over more than two decades . In the film , was in films like Action between friends (1998 ) , Crime Delicate (2005 ), both by Beto Brant , Alice 's house (2007 ) , Chico Teixeira , and The best things in the world (2010 ) , the Lais Bodansky , among others. Zécarlos Machado é um ator brasileiro, mais conhecido por interpretar o terapeuta Theo Cecatto, protagonista da série de televisão Sessão de Terapia. Nasceu em Alfredo Marcondes, São Paulo, em 1950. Mudou para a capital do estado aos 15 anos e iniciou os estudos de artes cênicas na Fundação de Artes São Caetano do Sul. É um dos principais integrantes do Grupo TAPA, atuando em várias peças ao longo de mais de duas décadas. No cinema, esteve em filmes como Ação entre amigos (1998), Crime delicado (2005), ambos de Beto Brant, A casa de Alice (2007), de Chico Teixeira, e As melhores coisas do mundo (2010), de Laís Bodanzky, entre outros.
