2011 festival year is off and running in Palm Springs with Deneuve and Potiche opening

user
Opening with Potiche (french film by François Ozon starring french icon Catherine Deneuve) just six days after New Years the Palm Springs Film Festival can probably lay claim to the honor of being the very first such festival of any size or signifigance on the annual international film festival calendar. While this is not a festival one hears too much about, being well off the beaten track and coming at a time when most of us are still recovering from year end Holidaze entertainment ove...

The BMW Golden Bear Lounge, an Oasis of warmth in the Midst of an Icebound Fest

user
The Berlin weather, which has been snowy, icy, blustery, and freezing, with menacing slippery pavements for the first four days, has not impeded the festival fever of the crowds at this Gala Sixtieth birthday celebration. On the second night a large crowd braved borderline Siberian Gulag weather conditions to ogle a huge outdoor presentation of the definitively restored print of Fritz Lang's silent 1925 classic "Metropolis" before the Brandenburg Gate, a landmark which is Be...

"Shutter Island" --should be shut down quick before it escapes....

user
by Alex Deleon for www.filmfestivals.com   Scorcese's SHUTTER ISLAND is a P.U. production from Paramount --- a film to commit suicide over after use. But Ben Kingley and Max Van Sydow have at last found their ecological niches in cinema history -- as -- uncompromising ultimate GHOULS!  Watch the Trailer on this site   I would have ankled this piece of unmitigated water torture after thirty minutes, but I was wedged into a balcony seat at the Fri...

London Fest afternoon tea at the Mayfair - so lovely British!!

user
One real gem at the festival is the tea ceremony. A few afternoons, members of the press gather with filmmakers and actors to chat and have tea. It's a very inspiring and just lovely event and a great opportunity to meet in a more relaxed setting. Today I had the pleasure to indulge in scones and tea with Danish filmmaker Martin Pieter Zandvliet. His film "Applause" is a dark, heartfelt, but also hopeful story about a mother who is recovering from alcoholism and desperat...
