"Touch" wins BEST DOCUMENTARY at Diogenes 2020: Stay Home & Make Movie Festival

user
"Touch" has won the BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD at the Diogenes 2020: Stay Home & Make Movie Festival out of Tbilisi, Georgia on July 3, 2020. Written and presented by 91-yr-old retired metallurgist and poet Donald G. Westlake, the film was directed/edited by his daughter Dawn Westlake, as they were both self-isolating during the COVID19 pandemic, 2001 miles apart. Westlake used family films going back to the early 1900s to illustrate her father's story about the importance of...

Siraj Syed reviews Machine: Misguided Machinations and Mechanical Malfunction

Siraj Syed reviews Machine: Misguided Machinations and Mechanical Malfunction Abbas Burmawalla-Mustan Burmawalla are a director-brother duo that gave an early hit to Indian Superstar ShaRukh Khan in the shape of Baazigar (Player/Gambler). Khan, never averse to accepting negative parts, lapped it up in delight, and a hit ensued. All those who cried foul, that the film was plagiarised from A Kiss before Dying, were mere spectators as the film, and its dizzy, snazzy sound-track jingled at the bo...

The good, the bad and the ugly

user
Day 2 of DIFF was a day of extremes. It was wonderful to see all the film fans studying their guides - some of the guides visibly well-read. I watched three films today and they are very diverse. Chicken with plums (Poulet aux prunes) premiered at Venice. It is a beautiful love story of a musician, played by Mathieu Amalric of The Diving Belle and the butterfly fame, who can't get over the loss of his violin and he decides to rather die. It sounds like a depressing film but it is in...

I travelled to Slovenia, Switzerland, France, England and Georgia all in one day and thankfully all on screen. The quality of the films varied today. The day kicked off with the life of a prostitute in Slovenian Girl, followed to the very colourful world of Pepperminta and the bond she has with menstrual blood, than went to France for Wild Grass and one of the weirdest love a...
