user
BOUDU SAUVÉ DES EAUX de Jean Renoir (Fra) - 85 min. A classic masterpiec, funny to see it in fantasporto (in french, and quite an exception in the genre line of prgraming)  DUAS MULHERES de João Mário Grilo (Por) - 100 min. I tried...but portugese is too tough, no subtitles to help.   RED NIGHTS de L. Courtiaud e J. Carbon (Fra/HK) - 110 min. Literati Film Festival

The Literati Film Festival is a collection of thought provoking works from around the world. It is an international showcase of film to evoke an emotional response and a perceptual alteration in the viewer. Accepting narrative, experimental, documentary and animation it is our hope they be shown together under the broad hood of cinema. It is our hope that you will behold something unfamiliar and strange, yet at the same time revel in its familiarity. We want to bring the viewer to a place outside their comfort zone, to a place where they normally are not allowed just as film does. It is a transitory experience. Voyeuristic, it is a window into the lives and minds of others. We want to show things that quicken the heart and mystify the senses. As Opera encompassed artistic union between different mediums, so to has film. It is the objective of the festival to celebrate the film in its totality. To also dissect it into its components and explore their beauty such as film score and concept art. Applicants are encouraged to submit any and all process materials and film scores to be reviewed as well. Art including but not limited to process, concept, props, installations, and costumes will be showcased in our grand opening and closing ceremonies. The first annual film festival will be held at the Anthology Film Archives. It is their mission of preservation and promotion of film as an art medium that we hope to ally ourselves with. Founded by Jonas Mekas, Stan Brakhage, Jerome Hill, P. Adams Sitney and Peter Kubelka in 1969, it was created as a place where film as an art could be showcased.

Brilliant reviews for Anton Checkhov's the Duel

user
"The vibrant new film adaptation of the Anton Chekhov novella The Duel...nails also the essential qualities of comic indolence and dangerous yearning in Chekhov, which have proved so elusive time after time, in adaptation after adaptation.... The Duel looks beautiful, but it is not merely so. It doesn't carry the baggage of an important adaptation; it's deft, droll and languorously sexy.... This film is indeed something like a miracle." - Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune [Read the r...

Carmine Frescoes of Joseph Brodsky: the Venetian Sheen

Director: Anna Polibina-Polansky.
The movie is entirely dedicated to the late period of the life of Joseph Brodsky and to his "venetian" days. Fantasies are totally fed by the real facts from the biography of the poet.

When Gustav Met Sigmund

user
Films that feature well known figures from history are always intriguing, whether they reflect actual fact or are mere figments of the director's feverish imagination. In the delightfully dishy MAHLER ON THE COUCH, the filmmaking team of Percy Adlon (pere) and Felix Adlon (fils) have made  a delicious historical "did-it-ever-happen" that features such historical characters as the classical composer Gustav Mahler, the psychotherapist Sigmund Freud and the Bauhaus design foun...
