International Film Festival for Children and Youth

Drawing from the rich history of Zlin Film Studios - a hotbed of the most extraordinary Czech animation of the 20th century, the Zlin Film Festival is focused on cinema for children and young audiences. With almost 50 years of continual history, it is also among the oldest worldwide. It features several international competitions, augmented by industry events and special events.

ZLIN 2007 - 47th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlín is full of packed movie theatres and satisfied viewers of all ages. Festival visitors can enjoy the best of contemporary film for young audiences, attend events with both Czech and foreign filmmakers and choose from rich supporting programme.

With its long history, extensive programme and lengthy list of celebrities who have attended over the years, the festival is now one of, if not the, largest children’s film festival in the world and has established a strong reputation amongst international film professionals. The festival also keeps alive Zlin’s cinematic heritage as the cornerstone of Czech Animation and the home of the 70 years old studios where acclaimed film-maker Karel Zeman created his greatest work.

The festival provides a unique opportunity for professionals and public to see and discuss film production aimed specifically for children and youth as well as offering a student filmmaking competition, international advertising awards targeted at young audiences and many other supporting events.

THE PROGRAMME:

357 films from 40 countries have taken part in this year’s festival. 78 accompanying events have taken place during the seven festival days, 52 within the main festival program and the others as part of Zlin Dog and Rainbow Marble.

16 awards were handed out at the Gala Evening. 141 films have competed in six categories and have been judged by 8 juries.
Foreign guests to Zlín - Haley Joel Osment, Andrej Chalimon, Gerrit van Dijk, Lawrence Guterman, Akim Salbiev, Marian Labuda, Maroš Kramár, Andrej Hryc – and many significant guests from the Czech Republic – names like actors Libuše Šafránková, David Prachař and Linda Rybová, David Matásek, Miroslav Donutil, Jiří Mádl, Oldřich Navrátil, Dana Morávková, Jan Čenský, directors Václav Vorlíček, Irena Pavlásková, Pavel Jandourek, Jan Balej, Miriam Landa, Dan Wlodarczyk and Ivan Pokorný.

PARTNERS AND SUPPORT

Zlín 2007 – 47th International Film Festival for Children and Youth took place with the financial support from the Ministry of Culture and the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Other resources have come from the fund of the Media Programme EU.
Alliaz Insurace a.s. is a general parter of the Zlín festival for the ninth time. Co-organizors are the Statutory town of Zlín and Tomas Bata University. The main partners are ŠKODA AUTO a.s., BAWAG Bank CZ a.s., IMPROMAT, DHL Express (Czech Republic) inc., the Zlín regional office and Tescoma inc.. Further festival support has come from the company Metrostav a.s., The Czech Forestry Service s.p., Czech Railways a.s.. The main beverage provider this year is new partner Kofola a.s. The main media partners of the festival are Czech Television, daily newspaper Právo, Czech Radio, and the Internet portals Seznam.cz and Novinky.cz and publishing company Astrosat. Special support within the Zlín region was given by Rádio Zlín, the monthly magazine InZlín and Magazine Zlín. Within the area of the professional press, the festival has been supported by the magazine and film monthly Cinema and the Rainbow Marble is supported by the magazine Marketing&Media.
Support for the festival has been given by the Minister of Culture, Mr. Václav Jehlička, The Czech Committee for UNESCO and the Czech Board for UNICEF. Support for the Days of Dutch Cinema was given by the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the Czech Republic Mr. Lucas van Hoorn. The Slovak Film Forum took place with the support of Ladislav Ballek, ambassorder of the Slovak Republic.
The international advertising competition Rainbow Marble took place with support of the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) and the Association of Communications Agencies CZ (AKA ČR).
The individual accompanying projects of the Zlín Film Festival also had support. And their partners also deserve our thanks.
The realization for the festival’s signature music scores was carried out with the support of partners Avion Postproduction, Film Studio inc., Soundsquare a.s., the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hradec Králové, Fuji, AFM Lighting Europe inc.
