THIS IS A HORRIBLE DOCUMENTARY.
NOT SURPRISINGLY WON AT SUNDANCE.
THE STORYLINES ARE DISLOCATED FROM EACH OTHER, THERE IS NO COHESION IN THE CENTRAL STORY... BUT WHAT IT'S WORST AND MORE BAFFLING IS THEIR DECISION TO SIT THE SUBJECT NEXT TO A TRANSLATOR WHO IS IN CHARGE OF TELLING THE STORY. WHO THOUGHT OF SUCH A DISGRACE TO HAVE A TRANSLATOR TELLING US THE HORRORS OF FOR EXAMPLE A KIDNAP WHILE THE PERSON WHO SUFFERED IT SITS IMPASSIVELY WITH A BLANK EXPRESSION AT THE CAMERA. WHAT CAN BE MORE "AMERICAN" THAN BEING SCARED OF SUBTITLES?
HOW DID THIS DIRECTOR WIN???
