Um equívoco no famoso e eficiente sistema de entregas de refeições da cidade de Mumbai - os Dabbawallahs- faz com que uma pacata dona de casa conheça um homem que está em luto pela morte de sua esposa. Juntos eles criam um mundo de fantasia a partir de mensagens trocadas através de bilhetes deixados nas marmitas nas quais as comidas são entregues.

In Mumbai, the Dabbawallahs are persons who collect freshly cooked meals from worker’s residences and deliver them to their workplaces. One day, a rare delivery mistake connects a suburban housewife and a man who is in grief since his spouse died. Together they create a fantasy world from messages exchanged through the lunchboxes used by the Mumbai Dabbawallahs.

Ritesh Batra was born and raised in Mumbai, and is now based in Mumbai and New York with his wife Claudia and baby girl Aisha.

His feature script 'The Story of Ram' was part of the Sundance Screenwriters and Directors labs in 2009. His short films have been exhibited at many international film festivals and fine arts venues. His recent Arab language short 'Café Regular, Cairo', screened at over 40 international film festivals and won 12 awards. Café Regular was acquired by Franco-German broadcaster, Arte.

 His debut feature 'The Lunchbox' (English, Hindi) starring Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, and Nimrat Kaur, was shot on location in Mumbai in 2012. 'The Lunchbox'  premiered at the Semaine De La Critique (International Critics Week) at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival to rave reviews. It won the Grand Rail d'Or Award and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics.
