About Cinewest

inewest (Multimedia) was established as an association by Auburn Community Development Network in 1999. This was a direct response to the need for Screen Culture and Audience Development activities in the Auburn LGA and Western Sydney region. This initiative was promptly supported by the Ministry for the Arts as part of ACDN Multicultural Arts Officer program until it became a legal entity and independent from the mother organization. In February 2003, Cinewest became a Company Limited by Guarantee and formed its own constitution and board of directors was appointed.
In 2003, CCDNSW and Cinewest were the only two organizations in the Western Sydney region to take part of a survey undertaken by a Melbourne based organization to draft SOPA's (Sydney Olympic Park Authority) Arts and Cultural policy. Cinewest managed to obtain a subsidized premise at Sydney Olympic Park to administrate its projects and aid with the implementation.
From 2003 2007, Cinewest received administration and project funding from Screen NSW.  During 1999 and 2006, Cinewest initiated and managed various CCD (Community Cultural Development), Screen Culture and Audience Development projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Cinewest has become a landmark and a platform in Australia for children and youth to access media industry, literacy and digital filmmaking as well as learning about production, presentation, promotion, and distribution.
