About the Director: 

Kal Bonner is originally from Liverpool and now lives and works in Jersey, Channel Islands. Her debut novel Climbing A Ladder Backwards was shortlisted for the Longbarn First Novel Award and was published in 2009. She is currently working on her second novel and has also written for radio. The film short - The Safest Place For Fruit Is In Carmen Miranda's Hat was adapted for the screen by Kal from one of her own short stories, and marked her debut as a director. The film has been nominated for one award: Best First Film - Swansea Bay Film Festival 2011 and won Un Certain Regard Van d'Or Awards - Cannes in a Van Film Festival 2011.
