Rita Figueiredo

Rita Figueiredo was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1977.
In 1996 she moves to London to study Fine Arts, where she works with time-based media and begins attending courses in 16mm filmmaking and scriptwriting for cinema.
In 2000, she is awarded a scholarship to study 16mm filmmaking in New York at the New York Film Academy where she directs her first short film called “No Standing Except Wind”. The film is selected to several film festivals in Portugal and around the world.
In the meantime she begins her work as an editor, working in several documentaries, short films and movie trailers.
In 2005, she directs her no-budget film called “Logro”, which was present in many international festivals and wins the 3rd prize in the Portuguese short film festival “Festival de Curtas-metragens do Júlio de Matos”.
In 2007 she is chosen to participate in the project “One minute film workshop”, organized in the Gulbenkian Foundation.
Since then she’s been working mostly as an editor.
In 2010 she begins working on her new no-budget short film “Silêncio de dois sons”, and finishes it in June 2011.
