Kicking and Screening Soccer Film Festival

Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival is an annual series of soccer cultural events that bring together soccer and film enthusiasts to celebrate the beautiful game.

K+S provides a forum for filmmakers, artists, and writers to showcase their work, uniting the millions of fans that make soccer the international phenomenon that it is. K+S is dedicated to showcasing the best soccer films in the world to bring attention to this under-appreciated, emerging film genre.

The festival's roots can be traced to April 2009, when a blind date between two fervent soccer and film fans, Greg Lalas and Rachel Markus, quickly evolved into a global festival celebrating soccer culture.

The success of the inaugural, sold-out K+S New York 2009 festival, held just three months after that fateful blind date, has led to K+S festivals in Washington (D.C.), Houston, North Adams (Mass.), Amsterdam, London, Kerala (India), Liverpool, Portland (Ore.) and many more locations around the globe. The festival has presented world premieres, U.S. premieres, speaker series featuring soccer celebrities, writers, and directors from around the world, several literary readings, and photo exhibits for thousands of festival attendees.

Festival presentation:

Premier global soccer film festival

Since its inaugural NYC festival in 2009, K+S has held more than 20 events globally featuring 100+ films from around the world—all in celebration of the passion and power of the world’s most beloved game.

Film screenings are complemented by poetry readings, art shows, live music performances, after parties, and thematic panel discussions exploring the themes and underpinnings of the films.  Special guests have included legendary soccer players, filmmakers, sports writers, artists, team owners, social advocates, and political dignitaries.

While its global footprint has helped K+S establish itself as the premier soccer film festival, it’s the annual flagship NYC festival that is the focal point for K+S and has embedded K+S within the diverse community of soccer, film, and cultural fans in the New York area.
