Goteborg International Film Festival
As the leading film festival in the Nordic countries, Göteborg International Film Festival brings films from all over the world to Göteborg. The main goal is to be the springboard that sends new Nordic film out into the world.
The festival began in 1979 and has since drawn in thousands of moviegoers to Göteborg each year. In 2014 we sold over 135,000 tickets to over 35,000 visitors who we offered nearly 500 films from 76 countries. But the festival is not just about film: We also offer around 40 seminars as well as music, art and many other activities surrounding the core of films. The seminars attracted over 11,000 guests 2014. The festival’s industry section, with Nordic Film Market on the vanguard, also grew last year and is an important meeting place for industry visitors from all over the world. Our programming group works year round to choose quality films from across the globe. As a visitor to the film festival in Göteborg, you’ll get to see films that never reach the large cinemas.
