Film festival Go Short kicks off with a statement!

Film festival Go Short kicks off with a statement!
Opening with a statement + crowdfunding initiative CineCrowd

The third edition of Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen kicked off with a statement. “We have an asshole government that is killing the art”. The festival opened with the world premiere of Danyael Sugawara’s new film After You, a film made as a statement against the cutbacks in the cultural sector. From 16 – 20 March hundreds of film fans and filmmakers get together to enjoy the best European short films. Go Short is the first festival to have a public crowd-funding market, CineCrowd, where the audience will get the chance to support new filmproductions. Go Short takes place from 16 - 20 March in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

Program highlights
For this third edition Go Short focusses on three talented Dutch directors: Arne Toonen, Hanro Smitsman (winner of the Golden Berlin Bear Award in 2007) and Danyael Sugawara. Next to that there will be a special selection of stop-motion films and a program with Portuguese shorts selected by Agência - Portuguese Short Film Agency.
For the competition programs 2046 films from 34 countries were submitted. The selection committee has selected the best 20 films in each category: fiction, animation, documentary, The Labo, student films, dutch films, cinepoem and also there has been an online competition. On Saturday 19 March the best films will win the Go Short Awards.
One of the remarkable films is The Eagleman Stag by Mikey Please (GB) that has already won a BAFTA award for Best Animation Short. The Polish filmmaker Damian Nenew surprises with a impressive animationfilm and also there’s the new fictionfilm by Erwin Olaf (NL). Furthermore the program holds great documentaries like Tussilago by Jonas Odells (SE).

CineCrowd
The new crowdfunding CineCrowd platform enables everyone to invest in Dutch short films.
At Go Short, CineCrowd will give filmmakers the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the audience. The audience will have the chance to support new filmproductions. Depending on the donation, the sponsor will receive privileges like a VIP-visit to the set, front seats at the premiere or a DVD.

Industry Day
Friday 18 March the festival will be bustling with national and international film professionals. There is a full program with lectures about short films and the internet: new trends, risks and rights and the possibilities to make a living with short films.

Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen annually showcases the best European short films. For five days, Go Short's visitors are awaited by 280 fiction films, animation films, documentaries and art films in theatres, public spaces and online. Go Short also organizes workshops, lectures, parties and an international film student campus. For more info please visit www.goshort.nl
