Chico & Rita to open trinidad+tobago film festival

Chico
& Rita
,
an animated tale of star-crossed lovers set to a Cuban beat, will be the
opening night feature film of the trinidad+tobago film festival/11, presented
by Flow.

The film will screen at the ttff/11
opening night gala, which takes place on 21 September in Port of Spain. The
Festival runs until 04 October.

Directed by the award-winning Spanish
filmmakers Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, and with a score by renowned
Cuban musician Bebo Valdés, Chico & Rita tells the story of an
ambitious bandleader, Chico, and a gifted singer, Rita, who chase their
dreams—and each other—across the globe and over many years. Music and romantic
desire unite them, but—as in the tradition of the Latin ballad, the
bolero—their love also brings heartache and torment.

The ttff/11
will screen nearly 100 feature-length and short dramatic, documentary, animated
and experimental films, at locations throughout the country. Apart from
T&T, countries represented include Barbados, Antigua, Jamaica, the Bahamas,
Suriname, Martinique, Aruba, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Venezuela,
Colombia and Mexico.

For
more information, go to www.ttfilmfestival.com.

The ttff,
which is in its sixth year, is presented by Flow and is supported by the
Trinidad & Tobago Film Company, the National Gas Company, bpTT, the Tourism
Development Company and the Tobago House of Assembly.
