SUBURBAN GIRL To Screen Tonight

Saturday, May 5-----One thing Festival organizers are always keen on saying is the following: "Due to popular demand and sold-out screenings, one last screening of FILM X has been added". While that could certainly apply to several Festival titles, one of the most sought-after has been SUBURBAN GIRL, the witty adaptation of Melissa Bank's best selling book, The Girls' Guide To Hunting and Fishing.

Alec Baldwin (he of the telephone message rant) joins with Sarah Michelle Gellar in this entertaining look at the high-powered world of publishing. Gellar plays an ambitious book editor who realizes that getting involved with a publishing playboy many years her senior (Baldwin) might be a savvy career move. Though she hesitates to get involved with this known playboy, his charm soon wins her over. She decides to stop playing it safe—with her career and with her heart. Before long she is being squired to the best New York literati parties, while learning the tricks of the publishing trade. But is this what she really wants?

The theme has similarities to last year's THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, set in the equally cut-throat world of haute couture. Marc Klein, known as a screenwriter for such films as SERENDIPITY and A GOOD YEAR, makes his directorial debut with this sharp script he also wrote. Based on the chick-lit phenomenon, this romantic comedy reveals that, while it can be nice to have someone more experienced guiding you through the pitfalls of life, success means a lot more when you find it your own way. The film, one of the more starry-eyed titles at the Festival, is still shopping for a US distributor. Audiences can catch the film in its final screening this evening.
