Aliens on Halloween: Riker Lynch director's statementI’ve been acting in LA since 2009 and I’ve been fortunate enough to work on 15 indie films, as a recurring character on the Fox show “Glee”, and most recently, guest starring on “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” on Netflix. While I definitely enjoy the process, I got a little tired of auditioning and hoping someone would give me a job, so I said to myself, “I should just make my own thing.” In 2019 I was at a Halloween party in Hollywood with a bunch of my friends. We were all having a great time, enjoying the night, when I looked over at the bar and saw someone dressed as a classic alien; big green mask with big eyes, the standard green alien look you picture when you think of an alien. The alien character is there just chatting with someone at the bar and I thought, “how funny would it be if that was actually a REAL alien just hanging out at the party and everyone thought it was a human in a costume.” And then I thought, “that’s actually a funny storyline!” Fast forward to March of 2020: the Covid lockdown starts so I begin writing. By April I had what I thought was a pretty fun script so I asked a few of my actor friends to do a table read over Zoom with me. That's when I really discovered I had something that I was very excited about. I got my team together and thanks to my fanbase from other acting projects my music career, I was able to raise some money to fund it. We shot in October following all the Covid protocols; it wasn’t easy but we made it happen and I’m very proud and grateful to all the cast and crew for being part of this. This became my first major production that I wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. I’m inspired by the writer-directors like Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino, and even more so by the director-actors like Ben Affleck, and Ben Stiller. Seth Rogan is a big one for me as well because he has written, directed, and starred in several of his films.
For me, Aliens On Halloween reminds me of party films like SuperBad and Can’t Hardly Wait, with the sci-fi spin of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The next step would be to make Aliens On Halloween a feature as I continue developing other projects including an action-comedy feature, and a sports drama based on the true story of a professional skydiver...
