Tales of Babylon

In this ultra-hip crime thriller, X and Y are two hitmen whose storyline is interwoven with other two hitmen: Mother Nature and The Professional. The lives of these hitmen, a bartender, a kid, her brother, and their gangster leader grandfather intertwine in these wild tales of violence, family and redemption, in London, the Modern day Babylon.

Labelled BEST FOR FESTS by curator Bruno Chatelin former head of Fox and Sony in France, founder and editor.

Director Biography - Pelayo de Lario

London-born and bred writer director Pelayo de Lario brings a new and fresh outlook on cinema and how stories should be told to fit an ever-changing audience, whose habits have become more fast-paced and hectic. Initially having trained as an actor, Pelayo developed an interest in directing when working in plays such as The Crucible and Macbeth at Queen Mary University and as a member of the New Youth Film Academy. He merged that passion for telling stories with the love of the film medium, in which he dabbled during his time at school. Pelayo co-wrote and directed "Jack", his debut feature film, over 11 days during the first covid lockdown, abiding by strict safety measures. "Jack" has since become an awarded film, recognised by its fresh and witty humour and fast-paced and energetic approach to storytelling, bringing a rhythm and pace more aligned with today’s audiences. Pelayo has this year taken the much larger task of writing and directing "Tales of Babylon", an epic action thriller narrating the lives of four different hitmen, a kid and a mobster boss and their intertwining tales of violence and redemption.

Director Statement

Tales of Babylon is a compiling of stories from the points of view of different criminals in London, modern day Babylon. I wrote Tales of Babylon as a type of love letter to this city, a story compiling all the stories and characters that make this city unique, that make a melting pot of different cultures and stories, a city with a thousand different tales and just as many ways of telling them. I wanted to show a different side of the city I love so much, a side that felt more real to my experiences growing up here. I also intend Tales of Babylon to be a new kind of movie, a movie created by a new type of filmmaker, one that caters to the wants and desires of a new generation of viewers who see the world and entertainment in a whole different way, who interpret films and tv with a different lens a different way of understating pacing and rhythm. A generation who needs constant gratification and seeks it everywhere they go, Tales of Babylon offer that to them and more.
